Turning Stones

General Summary

The party gathered themselves after their tense time in the capital, prepared their circus, and left before they could have any further confrontations in the busy city of Odessa. First on their agenda, however, was a diversion to the final teleportation sigil known to Garroth but unknown in destination. When the spell was finished channeling, they found themselves unmistakably in the horrifying tower in the Zahren that they had only recently traveled to, now on the other side of the locked door they had encountered. The spectre met them in the room when their presence was detected, but a name recounted from a gravestone put the spectre at ease.   The group inspected the tower, finding Garroth's (somewhat) of a pet phase spider still on the ground floor, minding its own. They also decided to venture back down toward the Pyre they had visited before, finding it still burning. Korva and Garroth took some time to venture in animal form to the Beholder's layer above the pyre room. They found the skeletons Korva had seen before, quickly dispatching them, before coming upon a prison chamber with mauled bodies of prisoner's, nobody left alive. venturing across the massive expanse of the Beholder's central column, they found a room filled with murdered imps, former occupants of this space. Finally, they made their way to the Beholder's trove, and after brute forcing their way through a number of dangerous traps, were able to reap the rewards of the search for themselves.   Returning upstairs, the group spoke to Jack about the pyres and relayed various thoughts about the other pyres and their new missions to ensure that future pyres are not lit. They discussed with stern tones to Jack, who had seemed to have interest in lighting the other pyres, although he seemed to now have no future desire to see them lit. The group moved on as Garroth investigated further, finding the altar laid before him with arcane sigils on a papyrus sheet. When garroth activated it, he was transported to a separate room directly above the previous chamber, one that was clearly a workshop of horrors for the original resident. Garroth found various notes and journals from Xarious, and eventually shared them with his companions.   After returning from Xarious' tower, the group ventured eastward to Lock's Fathom. Delving back upon their original path, they found themselves past the city, in the midst of the ancient ruin where the pyre was lit, still burning brightly with its magical essence, two large large columns of fire extending straight through the very walls of the canvernous space. Confirmed that the pyres are indeed linked justified their theorems. But to their surprise, there seems to be strange holes in the ground that weren't there before, descending further down into the depths.
