Vitanimis

Vitanimis is a condition that can be caused by certain types of healing spells against other magical plagues or conditions. In this case, the healing gives the recipient too much extra life energy, causing them to heal quite quickly from any injuries, but also to go berserk and often break things or take rash, deadly actions. It is quite rare, however not much can be done once this condition is entered to stop the victim's rampage.

Causes

Vitanimis can only be caught from improper magical healing, however, badly prepared healing magic does not always result in this condition. It is unknown how often this will take place, due to the small number of victims, the shortage of mages, and the victim's tendency to kill and destroy anything in their path.

Symptoms

Symptoms of Vitanimis include:
  1. Sweating, convulsions, hot all the time
  2. Abnormally high energy levels
  3. Extremely fast speech or movements
  4. Rash decisions
  5. Fast metabolism, always hungry
  6. Enormous healing capacity
  7. Going on a rampage, breaking objects or killing creatures
  8. Amnesia of the time spent in the condition

Treatment

For most cases, Vitanimis can only be cured by restraining the victim or giving sleep syrup to the victim until the condition passes. This is best done before the rampage starts, as once the sufferer has gone into the second stage of Vitanimis, they are nearly impossible to restrain or medicate. However, this method can be quite difficult, as large amounts of sleep syrup are required to sedate the victim due to their temporary extraordinary healing and immune potential. As well, even if some sort of sedative is administered, it is usually necessary to restrain the sufferer in case they wake up again or become violent.   Some say a true cure for Vitanimis lies in ancient bloodletting rituals involving a verbal forbiddance of magic, but these legends are unproven, and expert magical healers say this rites could be unpredictable at best, and deadly to the victim and the caster at worst.

Prognosis

Vitanimis usually lasts about forty-eight hours, divided into five stages.   During the first stage, whatever illness, injury, or ailment was afflicting the sufferer disappears quickly. The victim begins sweating, feeling hot, talking abnormally fast, and other mild symptoms. This stage usually lasts about four to six hours. This is also the best time to administer sleep syrup and restrain the sufferer before the rampage starts.   The second stage, also known as the rampage, is characterized by the victim running, jumping, and shouting with abnormal energy, and generally carving a path of destruction and sometimes death in their wake. The sufferer appears drunk or mad, screaming incoherently and will not understand anything said to them. The rampage is the most dangerous stage of Vitanimis, and usually lasts eight to ten hours.   While in the third stage, the victim collapses from exhaustion and falls into a deep sleep-like state, which they cannot be woken from by any means. This state can last up to four hours, but may be skipped entirely if sleep syrup has been administered.   During the fourth stage, the victim awakens suffering from amnesia, not knowing who they are, where they are, or even the names of their family members. This can also be quite dangerous, as the sufferer may become enraged and go on a second rampage. It usually lasts for about four hours.   In the fifth stage, the victim remembers their life, but has no memory of the time spent in the other stages. They also have enhanced immune function and healing abilities during this time, which lasts around twenty-four hours.
