Othrins (Aw-THRINS)

Feudal Kingdom

Land of Roads

Roads, sailing routes, and open borders sprawl across the eastern coast of the mainland. It is a kingdom for all people, and anyone can pass through or choose to live there. Though other nations enjoy the ease at which they can travel, trade, or negotiate with, a few accuse Othrins of stealing their people -- too many immigrants enjoy the freedom experienced in Othrins.

Welcome Friend, Welcome Foe

Given their welcoming nature, King Makadus IV has not spent the royal coffers on the military. In the past, Othrins was much, much larger, but King Makadus IV prioritizes peace and good relations over the outskirts of his land. And recently, when Coeros began its expansion four years prior, he built more roads to let in foreign refugees. Unfortunately, this allowed easy access for spies and Coerese soldiers to sneak in. When General Dhaggs officially launched his attack, he had the capital surrounded and captured in a world record breaking forty-two days, three hours, and eight minutes.

Star-Crossed

Half a millennia ago, two star-crossed lovers fled to a new land where they could be together. This is the story of King Regevan I and his queen, Heikäte I, and it has been adapted into dozens of operas, poems, and songs throughout Othrins' history. Most notable among these adaptations is The Fall of Stars, a tragic opera performed annually on the anniversary of Othrin's founding. It follows the wicked witch Heikäte as she plots to steal Regevan's kingdom, only to fall in love with him and ultimately watch her plots tear her family apart. [See The Fall of Stars to read the story]   When Heikäte fell in love with Regevan, the King of Eckeon forbade their marriage. The two star-crossed lovers stole away in the night along with half of Eckeon's army, traversing the Erakroan Sea in order to find a land where the King of Eckeon had no control. Encircled by mountains, they found a valley of rolling hills. When they found a lake so still and clear they could count the stars on its surface, they settled down and called it home. They named their new kingdom Othrins, meaning, "of the stars," for they were star-crossed no longer.

A Fairytale Romance

The wedding bells of Crown Prince Amyon to Ankte Fechil marriage were heard around the world. At the age of twenty-five, people were beginning to wonder if Prince Amyon would stay a bachelor. But with the beginning of his seventh Season, he began publishing love poems to publicly woo a secret someone. When the prince first met his soon-to-be bride, she was an informant for the infamous Messel Codevrin case, working undercover as laborer at a cotton mill run by Cordevrin, and he was working under a code name to take her information and build the case. At first, Ankte thought the prince's poems to be "silly" and "a bit on the nose." Prince Amyon swore to not reveal his identity until she considered a poem of his to be at least of decent quality. After the case, he continued to see her under his pseudonym, until finally, after several months, she called a poem "charming," and he revealed himself and proposed.   When the identity of the subject of Prince Amyon's poems was revealed, the public quickly fell in love with Ankte. Tabloids described her to be "open," "empathetic," and "beautiful." Due to popular request, their wedding was attended by common, noble, and foreign folk alike, and afterwards, the two, went on a wedding tour of the kingdom to meet the people that would one day be theirs.   What was kept a secret between Prince Amyon and his father was that the marriage was a careful strategic plan. To combat the claims that King Makadus IV spent more of his money on foreign invaders than on this own people, King Makadus IV ordered his son to only marry a commoner of Othrinsish descent by the age of twenty-five. The marriage of a royal to a commoner has always been symbolic in Othrins' history, as it calls back to the marriage of Regevan I and Heikäte I, promising a fruitful marriage and happy kingdom... though not always a happy marriage.
