Practices of Automancy

Xournish culture is widely prideful of its automated systems, whether they be in bathhouses, shops, or libraries. The well trained practice of automancy is the driving force behind these systems. It has become so crucial to everyday life throughout this region that nearly half of all Xournish students of wizardry pursue the studies of enchanting, and below that approximately twenty percent find their focus in evocation. These two schools are the primary veins of magic used to imbue metals and crystals with functional long term effects. A dedicated marriage of these studies has evolved into the well respected trade of automancy.
Although most noteworthy for its service golems or surveyor drones, this practice extends into almost every aspect of society throughout the province. From organizing books, to accomplishing simple alchemy, and even entertaining civilians on the streets, mechanical bodies of all types are made with the idea of a better life in mind. Albeit, only the most refined builds resemble more than a clunky amalgamation of rotary parts that periodically hiccup steam or oily fluids, nearly all functional bits imbued with some level of magic find purpose somewhere in Xourn. Pieces that don't serve a fitting purpose or those that become too tarnished are shipped to the recycling lot in Dopralem.
Showcased as a marvel of automancy itself, a massive magnetic golem looms over the capitol city's recycling lot. Once every two days this three story construct uses energy stored from sunlight to collect discarded brass in its tavern-sized palms. Once collected, it re-purposes the product by disenchanting any collected bits and converting that mystical reservoir into heat energy, then melting the scraps into slag that is sent to the city's brassworks factory to be remolded.
