Boldurian Stone Poaching
Since the foundation of Virdwelian culture on the Bastion Peninsula laws have had to be established to protect political interests between Virdwel and Boldur. With western civilization encroaching on the rich well of natural resources home to Boldur's mountains and jungles there have been many heated debates on what is and isn't correct to take. Boldurian culture is highly traditional, and as such they have a deep-seated respect for precious metals and the process of mineral growth. Excavating precious materials anywhere except designated riverbeds is explicitly forbidden, under punishment of oblatory reimbursement.
If an individual or group is found with raw gemstones or ores within an hour's pace of any assigned mineral site those persons are brought forward to a district berylmancer to assess the value and origin of said contraband. Minor misdemeanors resulting in a value of less than forty gold pieces are confiscated by authorities and the persons in question have a choice of up to twenty-two days incarceration or an equivalent amount of work hours panning for precious igneous minerals in the shallow mountainside of the Bastion Peninsula region--an area also known as the Glittering Trivet. Should the misdemeanor exceed a value of forty gold then the offender is ordered to return their findings twofold to the nearest active ashen shrine. Those that cannot afford this punishment are placed in political servitude until their debt is paid, typically running a term of one month per gold piece.
Ashen shrines are places of worship built in close proximity to active volcanic areas, and they are the most trafficked sites for religious rumination throughout Boldur. Villages or coastal cities more than one day's travel from these sites will instead offer collections and donations of rations to a priest that will make round trips every few days. These offerings are said to strengthen the mystical weave and reimburse citizens with fair weather.
