Eighth Thanks Library

The Eigth Thanks Library was the greatest depository-library in entire Vandaryen, maybe in whole Velod Empire (if you would count the secret archives too). No matter what of book you looked for you could find it there. The library was famous for its scholars and collection of old scrolls. Even lectures and balls were organized. Furthermore the basement was used to store food, wine and shelter in case of desasters or sieges.
The dwellers of Ravensberg where very proud of their building because everyone were allowed to use the books. It was an emblem of the knowledge and wisdom of the ravensberger scholars. In addition it was a unique library because the building was actually a cathedral.

Purpose / Function

First the building was build as an cathedral to honor Paryn, patron of wisdom and knowledge. After the Serath religion gained influence it was refunctioned into a library because no one wanted to pray to Alena there. So they decided to rather change its purpose.
So it served as a depository for books and scrolls. Furthermore balls or lectures were hold there. Moreover the basement was used to store food, wine and shelter in case of desasters or sieges.

Alterations

Many of the rooms were rebuilt and the catacombs got extended to serve for storaging books forbidden for normal people. A memorial for Paryn was replaced in a small hidden room beneath the side-aisles. Moreover the nave refunctioned as hall for feasts and a small part became the entrence to the new library provided with many book shelves.

History

The cathedral was build 1200 to serve as a prayer site for Paryn, patron of wisdom and knowledge. The architect, Fynrir Volenberg, oriented the architecture on the santiani but was not very liked by the citizen.
