The Discovery of Volatus Stones

Nearly a century has passed since the last explorers set foot into the mighty peaks of the Diemaja. Those at the foot of the mountain in Blyskaad warn the occassional intrepid adventurer to avoid climbing, for there are Lauma within the peaks far more territorial than those that live amongst the trees. Zemè, as they are called, are covered in thick layers of white and silvery fur to insulate themselves in the bitter cold high above. How do I know this, you may ask? I have encountered them.   My name is Vidaija and I am considered 'wise' amongst my people and yet they have begun to believe that my ventures into the Diemaja's many peaks are rather foolhardy. I, however, believe that us manlings have things to learn from the people that inhabit the mountain. My most recent journey has taken me farther than I have ever gone before. The point of ascension and the constant stir of wind often made it difficult to breathe, but I know well my limits and I had not yet reached them.   When I reached the peaks surrounding the summit, I witness a pale yellow glow. Not from the sun, no, it was from beneath the blankets of snow. Rummaging, I discovered six stones with strange runic symbols on them, all softly emiting a glow like that of a dragonfly. When I gathered them all into my bags, I suddenly felt light—I felt this incredible urge to leap as though I could simply glide over the land and so I did. Drifting through the clouds, I could see the edges of Ealdé as the legends often said. In the dead of night I returned to the ground in mere minutes.   Only with all six of these stones could I become a bird. I call them 'Volatus' stones, named after the daughter of the Father of Sleep who created the winds for birds to fly upon.
