Uneasy Partnership

This edge requires Let's chill and Convenient Agreement.
Throughout human history, there are plenty of cases where unexpected alliances have turned the scale.
Sometimes, factions have no other choice but to grab all their mutual hatred and shove it up their asses, since they hate a third party even more, and if they don't cooperate, they will be surely defeated... or worse, utterly wiped out.
This is especially true in the Afterfall. Human population is so low, that you can't really afford to be picky.

This edge allows a Dealmaker to unite factions towards a unique common goal, in spite of their differences, provided that:
  • the diplomatic situation between them is not open warfare, and
  • the situation in the room is not too tense nor violent, and
  • the people in the room have enough power within their factions to decide for them.

The situation is dealt with using an adaptation of the Negotiation & Debate System, and assumes you or your faction managed to organize the gathering, and proposes the common initiative. Aside of that, the mechanism is modified in the following way:
  • Instead of 3 rounds, you have 2 rounds for each other faction involved in the negotiation process.
  • Each other faction will have the chance to resist your proposal for 2 rounds.
  • Factions that are already convinced of you proposal (for example, due to previous one-on-one negotiations) can yield their 2 rounds, granting you support, and 1 Influence Token for your negotiation pool (overall, not for each round).
  • You get 3 Influence Tokens for each success, and for each raise. The other parties only get 1 Influence Token per each success and raise.
  • The Influence Tokens achieved by each resisting party are substracted from your final Influence Token pool, and this is the outcome of the negotiation.
In every other aspect, such as skill rolling and modifiers, follow the Negotiation & Debate System.
Beware, forging and alliance does not guarantee that you will be leading it. It will depend on the degree of success of the negotiation, and who and which faction is better suited for the task.

Tokens Degree of Succes
<0 Nothing is achieved, and you lose 1 Long-Term trust with everyone involved
0 Statu quo is preserved. Nothing changes.
1-2 Fragile Alliance: Cooperation will be kept to the bare minimum, and each faction will staunchly preserve its autonomy in decision making. The alliance will be plagued by problems, such as information hoarding, lack of coordination, hidden petty agendas, they may also try to undermine each other and compete for opportunities, resources and achievements, and some factions may turn on each other after the objective is achieved. External stress factors or complications during the endeavor may break the alliance, or require to make a new meeting like the one just held, to reassure commitment.
3-4 Hindered Alliance: There will be enough cooperation and good will, but hindered by different factions vying for power in the alliance, slow decision making based on consensus, competition, egos, drama, backstabbing, miscommunication, miscoordinations, prejudice, and the like.
5+ Functional Alliance: There will be a very good, sincere and committed cooperation. 1 single leader will be appointed for the endeavor by vote of all factions, advised by a council of emmisaries of each faction. It won't be perfect, but it will be quite smooth. Success may pave the way for long lasting good relationships between the factions involved.
