OttL Session 29: Memento Memento Vitae

General Summary

RP Roundup

  • Natsu grows a fifth tail while taking a bath
  • Faren is confrontational with most of the crew, trying to defend his past actions.  Under pressure from Natsu and Dreamonskii, it becomes increasingly clear that Faren is responsible for creating a cult, even though he refuses to use that word to describe it.
  • Dreamonskii lets slip his status as Ectraph Acdri's bastard child.  Faren is very interested.
  • Faren leaves the house with Dreamonskii to have a private conversation on a hillside.  A couple hours later, Natsu finds them on the hill, wounded, and near a pile of bodies.  They appear to have fought off an attack together, and struck some sort of deal.
  • Thaiva Phenol strikes two deals with Dreamonskii, one to protect her family from Lolth and another to have Faren assassinated.  For these two combined she signs away 32% of her soul, 30% of which is for the protection contract.  Both come with a soul-back-guarantee if the deals are violated.
  • Faren hands over a large folder of documents to Dreamonskii.
  • Hobbs disappears and is nowhere to be found.
  • Natsu and Faren have a very dramatic conversation in which she tells Faren she doesn't love him anymore.  He eventually teleports away, leaving behind a tarot card called the "Wheel of Fortune"

Hobbs Did a Thing

  • Hobbs is still missing.  Natsu casts locate object using Hide and Seek and eventually finds a small signal emanating from a vase
  • The vase is magic, and the interior looks like a ship.  Thaiva Phenol identifies it as a "hideaway vase", and is roughly three feet tall.  Thaiva Phenol keeps it.

To Shippo

  • The party travels into ShippoMemento Vitae is in disguise, but neither Natsu or Hobbs are.
  • They are accosted by a large crowd of onlookers in town as they stop to ask for directions.
  • Hobbs offers booze to one of the locals

Arrius in Natsu's House

  • Once at Natsu's house, the party splits up and begins searching.  Natsu retrieves her father's bow (magical +1), but the wedding dress has recently been removed from the closet.
  • Arrius emerges from the other room.  He has the wedding dress, and is using it as a prop to force the party to talk to him.
  • Arrius demands Natsu come back to "serve" the village with her visions.  When the party resists, he invokes the Conduit of Authority, completely preventing the party from acting against him.
  • The entire party fails their saves, but Hobbs has a monk ability which lets him end the effect on himself.
  • As the rest of the party slowly shakes out of it, Hobbs starts to deescalate the situation.
  • Arrius asks Natsu a lot of questions about her plans.  The party is very nonspecific in their responses.

Combat with Arrius

  • Following a grave miscalculation, Ignacio Icarsus attempts to threaten Arrius.  Combat ensues.
  • Combat lasts only two rounds.  Ignacio Icarsus is banished, and later returned.  The entire party takes heavy damage.
  • Arrius casts a spell against Memento VitaeMemento Vitae fails the save, and is dealt 86 damage.  He only has 84 health at the time, and is promptly disintegrated.
  • Natsu tries to surrender herself to save the rest of the party.  Himitsugami tries to prevent this, but Natsu passes her save.  Her surrender is only halted by a successful grapple by Thaiva Phenol.
  • The rest of the party flees combat, using the Badge of the Wayfarer to teleport to The Wandering Tavern

Mourning

  • The party arrives in The Wandering TavernMemento Vitae, now deceased, has also passed on to the Astral Plane.  By sheer luck, he also winds up at the tavern.
  • Memento Vitae says his farewells and tells the party not to blame themselves.
  • Conversation quickly spirals out of hand and disintegrates into OOC chatter.  The session ends.
