OttD Session 26: Arguing with Gods

General Summary

The feast continues. Izar is tap dancing with some deer   Zerrof returns. they all discuss counting their blessings. Corellon Larethian is mostly thankful for his followers and his favorite foods. Zerrof is primarily thankful for his adventures.   After pleasantries are out of the way, philosophical debate ensues with Corellon Larethian. He is a strong advocate for sharing the truth, but was narrowly outvoted, so he cannot explain what the group is missing. He does, however, take significant issue with the notion that the gods are being petty. According to him, the gods are extremely diverse, exaggerated stereotypes that exist at the whims of their followers. A lack of faith means they may well cease to exist. Under these conditions, he says, the gods are risking much by working together as closely as they are. He also scolds the party for not asking enough questions, getting all of their information from one place, and for more or less following along with whatever Penguin tells them to do. He even goes so far as to ask when the party will begin making decisions for themselves.   The party then proceeds to do exactly as they were told and start making decisions for themselves. After some debate, they decide to attempt to meet with Tyr. Their goal is to get him to change his vote so that they can find out what is really going on.   Zerrof sends a message to Tyr:
Tyr, We seek an audience with you for your guidance and wisdom to know the just path. Time is pressing will you meet with us?
    His reply:
As you wish
The party discusses briefly, and then sends a follow-up:
Thank you, where shall we meet?
  To which Tyr responds:
Meet me in the ruins of what you destroyed
Before going to meet him, however, the party takes a long rest in a magical mansion conjured up by Corellon Larethian. The place is like a five-star hotel, and even has a shared restroom with indoor plumbing.   Pestle talks to Dave, and asks to meet the one who has been answering his questions. He gets a 25 religion roll, and Dave tells him that "they are legion", and he needs to know specifically which one he is asking about. After some back and forth, Pestle asks to meet the one who answered his previous question of mortality. The world turns grayscale, and time seems to freeze. A purplish-blue void filled with tentacles opens up, and a human in an impeccable suit climbs out. This human is "aggressively average". He is precisely the average height and average weight, and his face is so bland and generic that it becomes difficult to describe. He is an avatar of mortality, one of the many abstract concepts that guard the Far Realms.   Their purpose, he says, is to insulate them from the world above and also to maintain order. They are not accustomed to using names, but he provides the name Iapetus for himself. Pestle says he agrees that immortality is an aberration, and asks to enter his service as a cleric. Iapetus agrees to this, but he says he "does not have the resources" to provide him the same things he gave the last person who came to him. Pestle asks who this is, and is told that it is someone he knows well. He is also given a holy symbol, which bears the image of a spear with a bloodied tip. This is the same image found on Dénouement. Before there is a chance to answer any more questions, Iapetus fades away.   Pestle is unable to sleep after this, so he instead crafts some Mind-Flayer. He Crits the crafting check, for a total of 32. The night is otherwise uneventful, and in the morning Pestle hides away the new holy symbol without saying anything to the party.   They depart for sigil. along the way Zerrof does a very bad job of teaching Izar sea shanties. shenanigans ensue.   Once in sigil, Izar goes exploring with Tornac still on his back. He is running very quickly and loudly announcing that he is a unicorn.     it takes a couple hours to travel to the Temple of the Four Winds, where they talk to Tyr. He is unmoving, citing both personal belief and the Preservation Proclamation as reasons he cannot change his vote. He also tells the party in no uncertain terms that they should drop this whole thing and go home. The party, being adventurers, elect not to do so.     Instead, they spend another hour to travel to Warehouse 19.     Pestle buys staff of the woodlands and a potion of fire resistance Adoven Woodsoul buys fire res. armor Vun Roade buys frost brand and a bag of holding     after shopping, the party has 4 or 5 hours before they need to report. pestle decides to swing by his pace. He wants to take Izar, but they dont know where he is so they shrug it off.     Once in Rainy Grove, Pestle finds a beehive, and asks the queen for their "finest soldier". He casts awaken on this bee, granting it sapience, and names it Barry. Pestle then further compounds these shenanigans by polymorphing said sapient bee into a cat. The session concludes.
