The humans that did not mix with other races started being born with a condition known as Prolithiatic Theriosis, which mutates a newborn infant's DNA with that of another species the moment they are exposed to the air. This was learned to be because of the genetic imprints that aether clouds carry long distances, once they pass through a living organism, is then imprinted onto the mold-able DNA of a person with Prolithiatic Theriosis. No two imprints are the same, and any DNA changed by means of an imprint are not passed down to later generations. Eventually over the next 40 years, all of the remaining humans contracted this mutagen.
