Silent Rocks

Found inside the bounds of civilization Silent Rocks is unique in that all roads go around the formation and no-one has ever laid claim to it. At first glance this might seem like the reason is simply because the boulder strewn field at the top of group of hills is not suited for agriculture, has no obvious recourses, and is often covered in fog. While all of these reasons do play a part the most important reason is that the entire area is universally unnerving. As one travels farther into field it quickly becomes apparent that all sound becomes muffled and distorted as the thick moss covered boulders and rocks dampen it while the fog adds to the feeling of isolation. As you progress further the phenomena increases in intensity and conversations must be had in close proximity to the other participant or the words will become lost, seemingly absorbed into the landscape.   Deeper into the unsettling landscape people begin to hear a mysterious unnatural melody that for whatever reason is not absorbed by the surroundings. while the melody itself is not sinister the fact that it alone seems to be unaffected by the rocks makes it seem somewhat sinister yet alluring in a way that is difficult to describe. This melody is played on an unusual  and rare instrument that is theorized to be a pyrophone. If the melody is followed it begins to slowly get louder but never uncomfortably so it also becomes more and more captivating in an other wise soundless horizonless world making it difficult to head back and return to the soundless isolating environment around it.    Those few brave souls who have followed it deep enough into the field and had the fortitude and willpower to return say that the music originates from the top of a short steep sided plateau of crumbling grey rock with the barest hint of smoke rising from the top, many that have made it that far never return to the outside world and none who have made it back dared to climb the low crumbling sides of the plateau to see what lay hidden on top.

Geography

A mostly flat fog shrouded plain strewn with large rocks and boulders covered in thick deep green moss. The fog provides a constant dampness to the area and accentuates the feeling of isolation that already pervades the area.
