Placeholdia

Placeholdia is a continent in the Sea of Saspitain , roughly 1,500 miles long and 750 wide. It is a land of misinformation and ignorance, with little stock being put into such things as accurately preserving history. In fact, historians in these lands are almost like cults, feverishly protecting items they claim serve the higher purpose of connecting the world to it's past. Possibly most fanatical is the Vanguard of Architecture, a group known to build small villages around certain sites of extreme historical significance and slaughter anyone who comes within a mile of the place.     Do not think that this is the norm, however. Most people in Placeholdia get on very happily with their lives in ignorance and relative freedom. Placeholdia is not the type of place that a powerful necromancer will try to overthrow. Indeed, it is much too large and divided. If the aforementioned hypothetical necromancer of great power were to try to conquer the land, he would need to start by possibly corrupting a country, then entering into a long, drawn out war.   This has happened many times in the past. Since the great Maker set the world spinning, three ages of civilization have passed, each almost entirely blotting out the memory of the one before. As well as the history of the world, the geography is not well known. News spreads readily of countries and great cities, but their locations, and the accuracy of such gossip, can easily be brought into question. Some tales from antiquity are well known, such as the land to the East from which all men on Placeholdia came, or the existence of strange, distant land masses to the South.   Speaking of the men on Placeholdia, it would be good to note that they are not all human. Among the humans are Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Gnomes, Lavakin, and the Squirrel People. There is no hard and fast rule about which races most like which others, as this varies greatly from region to region. As a quick example, the Dwarves and Elves of the Durkop Mountains are best of friends, as they have been trading fine hammer handles and axe heads between themselves since the second age of civilization!   Placeholdia is a land ripe for adventure. There are many questions, many grey areas on the map to be filled in, mis-remembered, and rendered grey again by the passing of time and the flow of gossip.
