Avistian

ah-viz-te-an Also referred to as "Vizzy" Less kindly as "Birdbrains", "Turkey", "Featherbrains", "Cloud Kissers"   The Avistian people were created by the twin brother gods. They are a bipedal sentient race, gifted with wings and a magical reinforcement that allows them to fly with speed and agility that would not otherwise be possible with the wing to weight ratio they currently have. Like many other races in the alliance, their skin tones vary tremendously from one individual to another. They are one of the chromatic peoples: Coming in a variety of colors that cold make up an entire rainbow. Though familial colors can be similar, it's certainly not a rule and two siblings, even twins, could have vastly different skin, eye, or hair colors.   Being the race closest to the gods, from an even literal geographic standpoint, they have some animosity and jealousy aimed at them from others. They have been tasked with keeping order and protecting the kingdom directly around the gods' city since their creation long ago. To aid in their work, they have been granted limited control of weather, where they can quite literally sit on the clouds at will, or push them around if need be. All of this has lead to being tightly tuned into local weather around them, and they can accurately predict incoming storms or other disturbances. And, as a side effect, can quickly determine unnatural weather phenomena from natural just by proximity. They also have been granted eyesight that is far sharper than most other races. Which makes their aerial patrols so much the easier as they can spot potential trouble from further away, and in greater detail, than most anyone else. Short of magically aided.   Physically, they have typical hands and feet, each with five digits. instead of claws or some combination as a few other races do. Their ears are, like the rest of them, some where between the elves and dwarves in their length. While dwarves ears are more oblong and rounded, And elves are very decidedly longer and pointed, avistian ears are only slightly elongated, but do come to a point, though not as sharp as an elves.   Size wise, they are some where in between an average Elf and an average Dwarf. Generally that are more muscular and stout than the Elven races, but typically less than dwarves, even with the added weight of their wings.   Excluding their gift of flight and minor weather manipulation, Avistian's are otherwise devoid of magical ability. Being entirely unable to cast even the simplest of spells.   Their wings, though feathered and similar to avian species, are extremely dexterous and can be used as almost another set of appendages to manipulate objects. While this, at a basic level, is more fit for macro movements, like picking up a large box or holding it steady as they are walking, with enough practice and dedication some have learned to use their wings almost as effectively as their hands. Effectively giving them another set of arms they can work with. While the mainly keep them tucked and folded to their back, they are capable of wrapping them around themselves in their front, giving an appearance of a feathery cocoon. They use this form of encasement similar to a hug, but more intimate. As they are actively protecting the individual from the world as whole, using their own wings. Receiving an all limbed hug, wings and all, from an Avistian is something special, as it's not done lightly. As it's simultaneously opening them selves up to the individual and allowing themselves to be physically vulnerable. Though, most non avistian's don't realize nor appreciate the full extent of such actions. Which is not likely to change as most avistian's aren't eager to share that tidbit of knowledge.   During the war they were relied on heavily for their mobility and quick attack tactics, along with their ability to maintain air superiority over the opposing forces.   Home wise their villages are constructed into the sheer cliff sides and tops of mountains. While they can casually lay out, sit on, or even sleep on, clouds. And thus avoid any of the hazards of weather, it's not conducive to having anything. As their magic allowing them to do so, does not apply to weapons they let go of. or anything else for that matter. Thus the need for a more substantial foundation for dwellings.
