The Phidian Zodiac Calendar

The Phidian Zodiac Calendar is marked by a cycle of 12 Zoidions, especially prominent constellations during given periods of (normally) 30 days that mark given celestial cycles. Astrology, the study of these Zoidions, has deeper magical consequences as well due to the general effect of Celestial Bodies on the nature of magic, and thus they were heavily tracked alongside true calendar dates during Pre-Arcanos Times.
As the Prime Material Plane cycles and its position in the Celestial Sea is altered, the Zoidions become misaligned with the true calendar dates of Phidas. This slight difference, of the 360 day cycle and 361 day solar year, is a known and significant issue after the effects of the Arcanos, as Pre-Arcanos Magic allowed for a wider margin of error than more modern practice. Thus, during each year, each of the Zoidions is sequentially extended by a single day to align the calendars, and is used to mark the broader 'Zodiac Sign' of a given year. This process began with the new cycle the year 2 PA (The most recent cycle restart is 1982 PA as of writing this article), and is strictly maintained due to the significant potential issues in a misaligned system.
The 12 Zoidions and their corresponding dates pre-modification are as follows:
  • The Minotaur (18th Mylora - 17th Venria)
  • The Gorgon (18th Venria - 12th Polia)
  • The Ettin (13th Polia - 12th Rensta)
  • The Ankheg (13th Rensta - 13th Selmon)
  • The Chimera (14th Selmon - 14th Unvie)
  • The Hag (15th Unvie - 14th Waloros)
  • The Marut (15th Waloros - 16th Quive)
  • The Remorhaz (17th Quive - 15th Xeria)
  • The Centaur (16th Xeria - 16th Tromar)
  • The Kirin (17th Tromar - 16th Alvorae)
  • The Elemental (17th Alvorae - 15th Zevian)
  • The Salamander (16th Zevian - 16th Mylora)

  •   The only significant impacts associated with a given Zoidion are from a purely magical perspective, though various beliefs surrounding the potential impact these modified magics may have on a given person's identity and upbringing are discussed and analyzed among Post-Arcanos Astrology Scholars.
