Cold Steel
Cold Steel is a rare metal known for its unique heat repelling property. It is rarely used for making weapons as it's difficult to forge, and since it's just about as durable as iron, it makes little sense to forge weapons from it, unless the heat repellent feature is needed.
There are a lot of misconceptions around cold steel. Some believe that cold steel is magical in nature, but no proof of that exists. Furthermore many believe that cold steel can freeze things, but in fact, cold steel remains just above the freezing point unless exposed to a colder environment, in which case it will react like any other metal.

Properties
Material Characteristics
Cold steel ore can be hard to identify for the untrained eye, as it looks very similar to iron ore. The subtle difference is that cold steel ore is slightly brighter than iron ore.
When refined, the difference between iron and cold is more obvious. Cold steel is more reflective than iron, and is also brighter, making it more alike silver than iron.

Physical & Chemical Properties
Cold steel is, as the name implies, cold to the touch. If you hold it in your hands for a long time, it will still feel as cold as when you picked it up.
Geology & Geography
Cold steel is found in mountains, usually high up in the colder areas.
The largest cold steel mine is in The Snowy Peaks (The Copadurian Empire).

Origin & Source
Cold Steel was first discovered The Snowy Peaks ages ago. It has become an integral part of Copadurian culture, and working with Cold Steel, either as a miner or blacksmith, is considered a respectable profession.
History & Usage
Cultural Significance and Usage
The dwarves from The Snowy Peaks (The Copadurian Empire) are extremely adept at mining, refining, casting and forging the metal, and as such becoming a cold steel miner or blacksmith is a very prestigious profession among the copadurians.
Refinement
As with most metals the cold steel ore needs to be refined before use. Melting cold steel ore is a delicate process as it requires tremendous amounts of heat to smelt, compared to other metals.
Normally when melting metals they gradually smelt the hotter they get, but for cold steel, it's quite different. The metal will remain cold until its melting point has been reached. This threshold varies depending on the purity of the ore.
Upon reaching the melting point, the cold steel will turn into its molten state almost immediately, which often has an explosive effect, making it both dangerous and difficult to refine.

Manufacturing & Products
Due to the explosive effects from melting cold steel, it is usually used for casting rather than forging.
There are many uses for a heat repelling material, ranging from small containers to keep things cold, to headbands that help keep people chilled in hot areas. The dwarves also use cold steel to create tools and molds for handling other metals that require substantially less heat to forge, than cold steel.

Hazards
There are no known side effects to using, wearing or working with cold steel, except for the potentially explosive effects when the material reaches its melting point.
Reusability & Recycling
The dwarves of The Snowy Peaks sometimes buys broken items made from cold steel, as they have the equipment to repair it or melt it into something new.
Blacksmiths outside The Snowy Peaks don't want to work with cold steel, as the risk of injury or destroying precious equipment is quite high.
