The Dust
The Dust, or Nu Atyah (noʊ at.ja) in Low Arnan, is a desert region to the southwest of Preom Ecrana. Known for its heat and near total lack of vegetation, the desert is viewed as a virtually impassable obstacle by the vast majority of the Continent.
The exceptions are particularly brave merchants and the Arnan people, who are able to traverse the Dust with only moderate difficulty. Cities along the edge of the Dust, notably <Error:Name Not Found> and <Error:Name Not Found>, are accustomed to the sight of Arnan kusha arriving to escort merchant caravans from the various nations across the sandy waste to The Spire.
Fresh water is found in rare and isolated springs, especially along the transition zones from desert to mountain in the west. The Spire, the only permanent urban center with some of its territory in the Dust, is positioned over the largest of these springs. No rivers manage to pierce the vast expanses of sand, and travelers unaccompanied by native Arnan kusha typically perish following mirages promising relief that never materialize.

Besides the aforementioned mirages, sandstorms are frequent and deadly. Shifting the landscape of the desert itself, the storms are referred to as <Error:Word Not Found>, literally 'The Mountain's Hand', in Low Arnan. They are believed to be the result of the mountain deity, <Error: Name Not Found>, reaching out his hand to wipe the desert clean.Natural Resources
