The Uniter.

With The great Dominion established from all three coasts and the Long Knives in control of the known South their dominance was firmly established. The indigenous people and half sons divided, played against one another and against themselves something was needed to change. When colonial settler greed opened up the plague, the opportunity arose. The Uniter was a normal person, a thinker, a spirit man. No longer divided, past generation discretion and trespasses set aside. They rode the foreign horses, ponies preferred to the war horses of the Dominion knights. Quicker and faster. They raided, counter coupe, and ambushed. Frustrating the Dominion knights. Until it was time for battles on the field. Indigenous allies and hired mercenaries turned on Dominion forces in the midst of battle.   With dirty tricks, bribes, and rum a jealous rival of the uniter was turned. The uniter murdered in battle, a tomahawk in the back. But it was too late the Dominion faded to one last foothold in the stolen lands. Without the uniter the confederacy fractured, dutchys, kingdoms, disputed territories were established. United for a brief but important moment , great thinkers and historians wonder what if it held and hope one day people will unite again.   The uniter once said in a few more generations we will be one. We prosper when United, we survive when United, we can fend off any new colonial settlers when United.   A similar uniter was found in the ranks of the grotesques. Holy knights and long forgotten warrior societies had used grotesques separated by great distances to fill their armies. They had convinced the grotesques that they were their creators and masters. Gargoyles in one land were used to battle distant cousins for these holy night's causes. When the truth was uncovered gargoyles united, deserted these holy orders who destroyed themselves. Gargoyles not wanting to be used again thought it best to stick to the night. Fading into legend and all but forgotten. They lost trust in fragiles. Lived silently above them. Coming only at night.
