Old Dominion

When colonial settlers first washed up on the eastern shores from a ship wreck they were welcomed. Soon more ships arrived the numbers soon overwhelmed many areas. They brought steal weapons, armour, horses and other goods. They themselves lusted after the rich furs, great lumber and gold. They played nations against one another until they had a foothold. Eventually they occupied and controlled much of the land.

They unwisely explored areas forbidden unleashing a plague on the lands. The plaque lasted years, the settlers of the Dominion were more susceptible to the disease they unwittingly unleashed and more of their numbers died then the original inhabitants and those that mixed.
Weakened many original inhabitants put their differences aside and coordinated attacks. The dominions land shrank and shrank. With the great peace they retained a foothold in the east a land now called the Old Dominion. Ships arrive only once a year to trade. No new settlers have set foot for hundreds of years. Coming to the continent wasn't worth the risks. Many settlers had started lives, living all over the continent for generations, many stayed after the pestilence. Others moved to dominion lands. Few return from whence their ancestors came from, having little in common with the places across the seas.
With the Dominion's power gone the other nations battled for control of the vacant lands. Not satisfied with their original lands nations often contested areas. The situation balanced quickly as the armies of all were weakened, years of battling the Dominion had taken a toll in all aspects of life. 500 years ago the Dominion crumbled. The post dominion battles lasted 10 years. There was relative peace since then. War parties, raid parties continue. Alliances have for the most part have stabilized the known world. Minor wars still are common place. Pembina and Muskeg have been rivals for generations.
