Loutonekron

I've seen them grow far and wide there, some already pale crimson whilst other were still slowly gaining their bloody colour. A wondrous sight. And to think that such beauty can grow only on the soil upon which so much death and misery had been inflicted. A veteran soldier recalling the flowers while he was visiting an old battlefield

Basic Information

Anatomy

The plant is compromised out of a single stalk upon which top a central core of the flower is present. Out of it grow heart-shaped petals that are progressively layered and extending further on the higher they are. The stalk is also the backbone for small oval leaves.

Growth Rate & Stages

When a seed finds a proper spot for itself to grow on it begins to grow quite rapidly. A small sapling can emerge out of it in a matter of just a week and then turn into a full plant within the next one. The way to quickly tell the stage of the plant is to look at its flower colour. If it's white, then it's rather recent, if transitioning into red, then it's already quite developed, and if pale crimson, then it's a fully grown flower.

Ecology and Habitats

The Loutonekron enjoys soil rich in iron and nitrogen and can spread very rapidly if it gets a hold on it. The optimal environmental factors for it are:
  • Temperature- between 5 to 30°C
  • Humidity - medium, although it can tolerate both low and high
  • Exposure to light - all day long
  • Watering - it can wait out long droughts thanks to the water it stores in underground spores attached to its roots

Biological Cycle

Each autumn the Loutonekron sheds its flower's petals, leaving only the small core to which they are attached normally. This reduces their needs and helps to survive through the winter. When temperatures go above 0°C and the snow melts it begins regrowing them back.

They may be beautiful but never forget what they truly stand for. Wherever they grow terrible things have happened and that horrid past is lurking somewhere behind you until you leave the place. A village farmer living near past battle grounds
