Wolf of the North Session 4 Report

General Summary

Vor ,  preparing to leap from the shadows at the Ogre that had stationed herself amid the Banshee Wagon spotted Grilsnick hiding among the trees nearby after Grilsnick tossed a pebble at the monk to get his attention.  Gathering together the two began to plan how best to take on the ogress.  It was about this time that Tup and Brandilyn Hart arrived.  Discussing tactics, they decided that Tup would create a diversion by setting one of the banshee wagon cars on fire while the Brandi and Vor attempted to sneak around and surround the ogre and Grilsnick fired arrows from the trees.   The frozen forest floor lit up as Tup ignited one of the cars and the fight was on.  While the heroes are mighty, an ogre is a powerful foe and Vor was already injured from previous battles.  At one point, the ogre pierced Brandi's arm with its ogre hook and nearly killed Vor.  Brandi and Chompy were also wounded badly during the battle, but eventually the heroes took down the foul giant.   After taking some time to stitch themselves up, the others decided to follow the trail of the orcs that had raided the makeshift camp to retrieve the half dozen or so villagers that had been kidnapped.  With Chompy scouting ahead, Brandi covering tracks, Grilsnick and Vor sneaking and Tup making snowfriends named Tyrone, the group soon discovered the Elf-Eaters' Camp .  There, orc archers stood watch in platforms in trees around the camp while within the camp itself, the Wolf of the North and the dozen or so orcs located in this permanent camp had captured about half of the villagers of Frost's Edge  and were forcing two of the villagers to fight one another. though the two young children they had rescued, Hansir  and his sister Gretir  were nowhere to be seen.  The encampment was surrounded by a short spiked wall and there were several huts inside, one of which had smoke rising from the hole in the center of the hut, likely a warm fire amidst the frigid cold.   The heroes decided that their main first goal should be to take out the archers on the platforms surrounding the village, which would be easier to do since the elf-eaters were busy watching the peasant fights.  Their plan for each platform was to sneak up, Vor climbing the platform and knocking an orc off for the others to finish while he took on an orc on the platform itself.  Unfortunately it didn't exactly go as planned, but the group was successful in this phase of their plan.  At one point, Grilsnick shot one of the orcs directly in the heart with one shot and directly in the eye with a second (two crits and two draws from the Critical Deck).   During the fight, some training the heroes had been doing in their free time gelled and they felt a renewed sense of purpose (i.e. they leveled up to 2nd level) and were ready to save the poor villagers in the camp.
