Redlands

The continent known as the Redlands is the birthplace of humanity, though that ancestry spread throughout the rest of Marrikan extremely quickly. Founded by powerful celestials in service to the Temple of Passion, the old City Angelus is one of the oldest cities in the world. Here, the celestials, deities of the Temple and mortals lived side-by-side. Unfortunately, this didn't last for too long. During the Night of Tears, many of the celestials were killed by humans loyal to Satanus the God of Wrath and Lucifer the God of Pride . The blood of celestials that was shed that night still saturates the ground of the entire continent to this day, permanently staining the dirt red.
As a result of the Night of Tears, the gods of the Temple of Passion swore to no longer directly interfere in the world of mortals again, and they left behind to their various realms, to guide through proxies such as clerics and champions. The City Angelus was declared anathema to enter, and it was magically sealed off.
Nearly 1,000 years ago, a fire giant adherent of Lucifer the God of Pride was born. This giant became known as the Iron Lord and he changed the face of the world forever, garnering the support of the various giant, orc and goblinoid tribes living in the Redlands and soon spread across the entire world, conquering much of it. Today the Iron Lord sits on his throne of iron in the center of the City Angelus, having long ago broken the wards along with the help of his patron Passion.
