Resilience class cruiser

The Resilience class cruiser is a large class of airship used by the Merindian Empire. They are used as a smaller alternative to the huge Endurance class dreadnoughts, and while being smaller, are still formidable weapons of war. There are currently 102 resilience class airships in active service.

Design

Resilience class cruisers are 620 feet (189 meters) long, and they have a diameter of 78 feet (23.7 meters). and build from strong steel and held aloft by large drakkeon gas cells. Resilience class airships can travel great distances, carry large amounts of cargo and radio equipment, and they host many weapons such as cannons, bombs, and machine guns.

Structure

Resilience class cruisers are very long for their diameter and are held in shape by 28 steel rings, which are held together by large steel girders that run lengthwise down the ship, and this structure is further reinforced by numerous sturdy cables. Resilience class airships contain 20 drakkeon gas cells. Each cell is separated from the other, so if one is ignited, it won't ignite any other ones. The skin of the Resilience class is strong durnium armour, which protects it from weather, bullets, and cannon fire. Within the keel of the airship, there are crew areas and some other rooms such as radio rooms, as well as many porthole windows.

Interior Rooms

The resilience class features a long cabin running lengthwise down the bottom of the ship, and this cabin contains the bridge, the navigation room, the mailroom, and other rooms. This cabin is one floor and mostly used for carrying a huge bomb payload. Most of the ship's livable area is within the keel inside the ship's envelope, however. Within the keel is all are all of the crew quarters including the crew berths and the mess. Within the keel, there is also the radio room, the armoury, and storage rooms. there is also access to the internal engine rooms, as well as the water and fuel tanks. On top of the airship is a smaller corridor that leads to 4 anti-air gun emplacements.

Armament

The resilience class is armed with dozens of machine guns and strong cannons, as well as a huge bomb payload. There are anti-air guns all along the cabin, and many more anti-air guns in the top, front, and back of the airship.

Operational History

The resilience class was first introduced in 864 as a new weapon against Regius during their was with the Merindian Empire (864-868). The resilience class proved successful, and more were produced, and eventually over 70 were completed by the end of the war. Dozens more were produced following the war in order to further strengthen Merindian Empire's domination of the skies. During the Panagon War between the Merindian Empire and Harellia (870-874), resiliance class airships played a crucial role in defeating the Harellian air superiority. During the final battle in the Harellian capital of Aggurrak, 30 resilience classes fought in the skies above the city. After this war, the resilience class continued to serve the Merindian Empire, and currently 102 exist.
