Alaric

Alaric is a small coastal nation south of the New Shorian Empire, the Merindian Empire to the south, and Taurith to the east.

International Relations

Alaric is part of the Free Nations Alliance, and thus is opposed to the Imperial Coalition. Alaric joined the Free Nations Alliance because it feared an invasion from the New Shorian Empire and Taurith, both of which are part of the Imperial Coalition, so Alaric joined the Free Nations Alliance to prevent them from going to war since then it would bring the entire Free Nations Alliance into the war. This decision paid off and prevented Alaric from being conquered, although it still did increase tension between the Free Nations and Imperial Coalition.   Alaric is especially an enemy of Taurith, as they had tried to conquer them 60 years ago in the year 820 but were defeated. This war happened because Taurith has no coastline and believed that Alaric was blocking their path to weath and power, and tried to conquer them to gain the coastline which they believed was theirs rightly to rule. This sentiment has persisted up until the present day where Taurith and Alaric have both strengthened their militaries with Taurith preparing for a second invasion of Alaric and Alaric building up a force to defend itself. In response to the invasion from Taurith, Alaric built a mighty defensive line on their border with Taurith to deter future invasion. Recently this defensive line was extended into the northern border to try to hold back the New Shorian Empire in a likely future war. All of these defences have turned Alaric into somewhat of a fortress of a country which is determined to hold out against it's mighty neighbours.

Government

Alaric is a democratic country, and values itself of it's great liberties and freedoms. Alaric allows voting for all citizens, and they elect representatives who make decisions on laws and government decisions. They also vote directly on laws but most importantly they vote on who is leads the country and for how long. The leader of Alaric is a consul who is given a 5 year term, and can be voted on for another term, and one more term.

Culture

Alaric is considered a very pleasant and friendly place by outsiders. The people of Alaric enjoy a high standard of living and generally peaceful lives which are further enhanced by their many freedoms which cannot be found in many other countries such as the right to vote or more legal power.   Alaric was viewed as a peaceful and harmless nation until 820 when it was invaded by Taurith but managed to hold back the onslaught and come out of the war with a heroic victory despite being so heavily outnumbered. Ever since then Alaric has kept a standing army of notable size and build a powerful defensive line on their eastern and northern borders.

Architecture

Many of Alaric's houses are primarily made out of wood and have very steep sloped roofs. Each individual house, with the exception of the roof is usually also painted with a single colour such as red, blue, yellow, green, and anything inbetween. These colours are also generally rather dark and muted by still very colourful.

Geography

Alaric's western coastal half which borders on the Isonian Sea is generally a very windy and rocky mountainous place which has many fjords and few trees and large plants. Further inland beyond the coast there is a large forest which gets larger and denser further east.   Alaric has a temperate climate, which tends to be at around -10°C in the winter and +20°C in the summer at the western coastal regions. In the inland eastern regions the temperature varies more, with it reaching about -17°C in the winter and 22°C in the summer.

Military

Alaric's army is small but has a reputation as determined and fierce soldiers, and most of their army is based off of the defense of their country.

Ground Forces

Alaric has roughly 120,000 elite soldiers that dedicate themselves to defending the two great defensive lines that cover Alaric's northern and eastern border. Alaric also has around 220 tanks and 400 other military vehicles. They also have thousands of artillery pieces positioned to defend their borders.

Air Force

Alaric lacks a strong airforce, but employs huge amounts of state of the art anti-air guns. Alaric has around 120 fighters and 40 bombers, and completely lacks large airships, but has 43 smaller scouting airships.

Navy

Alaric's naval power is very small, and their navy is powerless in the Isonian sea, being completely outgunned by the New Shorian Empire's fleet and the Merindian Empire's fleet. To compensate for their smaller navy they have built dozens of powerful coastal fortresses which can destroy enemy ships.   Alaric has no battleships or aircraft carriers, and has 12 cruisers, 30 destroyers, and 34 submarines.
