    Amaranth founded

Eight ruling tribes, each with their own chief, follow the guidance of a council of high priests.

    War with the Serpentfolk

Many weapons constructed. Humans as mercenaries. Satyrs and Eladrin as allies. Dwarves are driven out of their underground citadels and temporarily ally with Amaranth. They never return home. The war eventually ends (some stories say a treaty ended the war, although others say the Serpentfolk mysteriously withdrew one day).

    Age of Restoration

Legendary expeditions to Dwarven citadels find them reduced to dust and snake nests. Many are purged and reconquered, but with no standing structures, the urge to reclaim them dies with this generation. Much of the cities real construction begins during this period, including the first stone dam, a collobaration between Eladrin and Dwarves.

    Cold War with the Merfolk

As Amaranth expands and the waste it produces grows, and the dam allows them to sift many treasures from the river Amar, tension with the Merfolk grows. A bloodless war of sabotage and spying rages as the Merfolk threaten to destroy the dam. Negotiations focus around allowing the Merfolk a portion of all finds from the river. Stories say Tethys actually advocated for the integration of the Merfolk. Historians usually point out that, since the victors write the history books, and the Merfolk eventually joined us, the stories of this age are probably more noble than the real events.

    The Draining of the Sea

Something drains the sea, forming the desert that will eventually be The Battlefield. War with the Merfolk consequently ends abruptly, and they join Amaranth, taking refuge in the large lakes formed by the dam. They are responsible for the aquatic agriculture and fish farming that helps the city grow to it's current size.

    Elves fall from the sky?

At least, that's what the legends say. Some keep to the wilds. Some join Amaranth.

    Arrival of the Dragonborn

Dragonborn trickle into the city, seemingly bewildered, with no memory of where they migrated from; speaking only of Amaranth as a prophesied 'Promised Land'. They rapidly take up worship of Amaranth's patron deities and the defense of the city.

    The Worldshock

Memories wiped. Gods disappear. The Keystone emerges in the The Battlefield and the first skirmishes with @Malthracion over it occur.

    The Bombardment of the City

Malthracion seizes the Keystone, using it's power to bombard Amaranth. Several months pass before @Fortitude rallies an army large enough take the Keystone from Malthracion. Amaranth's dam nearly falls; held together only by Eladrin and Merfolk magic.

    The Age of Heroes

The Keystone changes hands several times, and research into using it's power for longer term purposes (rather than crude destruction) makes important strides forward, eventually ending in the longest period Amaranth has ever held the Keystone, when a vast arcane fortress was raised around the Keystone, with help from the Eladrin. Many heroes make a name for themselves and/or fall during the period; those who care for such nostalgia call it 'The Age of Heroes'.

    The Orc Swarm appears

The first appearance of the Orc swarm overruns the fortress at the Keystone, seemingly immune to it's magical defenses. The fortress collapses without Eladrin intervention, and Malthracion subsequently take it from the Orcs, driving them back into the wilds.

    The Days of Blood

The Feywild turns feral. Carnage and chaos causes many Fey to escape to Amaranth as refugees. Some creatures follow them through, hunting throughout the city until an emergency ritual collapses all the Feywild planar alignments into The Spiral, where they remain to this day. Most of the Fey species that arrived as refugees join Amaranth as citizens, but a few flee to the wilds.

    The Reformation

After long periods of civil unrest, fueled by the citizenship of many non-Tiefling species, the council finally allows non-Tieflings to serve in the cities' civic leadership, as part of the democratically elected high priests of the Council. Though many point out that Tieflings make up a great proportion of the high priests, the election of the first Merfolk, Dragonborn, Eladrin and Dwarven councillors settles the unrest for a long while, and sets the stage for the political system Amaranth now has.

Red Orcs first arrive at Amaranth

claiming to have found a method of breaking themselves away from the swarm. Ask for sanctuary in Amaranth, and land to grow their red herb. Their camp outside the city slowly grows into a walled monastery, and despite fears, there is much trading between them and the city. It is two decades until they are eventually acknowledged as citizens, by which time, the city limits had already expanded to enclose their enclave.

Minotaur & Bugbear tribes first join Amaranth, driven west by the Orc Swarm.

The Burning of the Grand Library

Malthracion breaches the city walls of Amaranth - razing of at least a quarter of the city. Loss of Grand Library removes many historical records. Orc Swarm attacks Malthracion army from behind and a young Amari Celeste crushes them between her assembled force of off-duty soldiers and coscripted citizens. The weakened swarm is driven back from Amaranth's walls before fleeing back west.

    Harpy Rebellion

Harpies staged a velvet coup within their Aviary. Having imprisoned their handlers for a year, but still performed their previous scouting duties, a flight lead by Ava petitioned the council for citizenship and the formation of their own House.

    Sundering at the Keystone

Malthracion and Amaranth forces clash at the Keystone in a week-long stalemate. Spellcasters from both sides attempting to use the keystone for opposing purposes eventually bring about an event now called the Sundering. Huge portions of both armies were incinerated in radiant light, and several pieces of the Keystone were blasted clear, landing miles away in the deserts of the Battlefield. Both sides rush to claim the shards, resulting in several major skirmishes, even with the much-diminished armies. Both forces are now entrenched near the Keystone, threatening to do the same again, should the other side approach the keystone. Generals carefully move their forces in and out, trying to ensure the effect of another Sundering will cost the enemy more than them.
