The Mist

The Mist is  a forest wrapped in myths. The forest is surrounded by mist and nothing else is known about the forest. Anyone who enters either exit seconds later from the same place they entered or is never seen again.   Many who have entered the forest and were fortunate to return speak of whispers that followed them, leading them back to the edge of the forest. Those who return are haunted by the words they heard and refuse to speak of them to anyone. Many people blame the Elf god, protector of the forests. Legend speaks disfavorably on the Elf as they are one of the only gods who can see a person's desires. Known for destroying their enemies not with a sword or bow, but with their words.   Those taken and not returned are often wrong and people believe children are taken by the Elf because they are innocent and have nothing the Elf can destroy them. Instead of returning them home, the Elf takes them and forces them to live in the forest.   The myth of the whispers in the Mist coming from the Elf is used to frighten children from wandering into the wild without parents but also serves as a warning to everyone that their sins are not as hidden as they may wish to believe.   In the city of Feuerkas, The priest of the city uses it to force people to reveal their wrongs to them so that the Elf can not use it against them if they were to find themselves in a forest one day. This myth is often twisted to suit the needs of those in power to manipulate people into sharing their misgivings. This myth is one of the leading tools used to force people into willing giving leaders information about anything people are doing that would endanger the current power balance.
