Obress Courtyard
Purpose / Function
This area is inhabited by the revolting slaves from the surrounding Obress Mines. They are here because they deem it unsafe, and unwise, to venture into the ancient city, though it is more defensible and the supplies they require are far more abundant.
Design
The courtyard is built with many flat sections of ground connected by stone roads and stairs. Signs of the once thriving market that resided just outside the main portion of the ancient city. Now small drifts of sand have begun to pile up, the desert slowly attempting to reclaim the land.
Entries
There is one main entry through the large gates of the ruined city of Obress. The gates themselves have long since ceased to functionally close and the gatehouse has disintegrated into a heap of dust and rubble. The only other exit is through the doors leading to Obress proper. Though unlocked and slightly ajar, none dare venture into their black depths.
Sensory & Appearance
As you approach the gates the sounds of city life grow ever louder. The smell of sweat, exhilaration, and excitement waft across the light breeze floating down from the mountains. The courtyard is filled with tents and small makeshift dwellings for merchants to sell their goods. Homes for families lay scattered among them. Large flat plots are turned into training rings for gladiators turning simple peasant miners into forces to be reckoned with.
Denizens
The former dusty slaves go about their lives, moving from place to place with little attention paid to those around them. Towards the center of the encampment is Ashet, the leader of the rebellion, guarded by a host of gladiatorial elites and his infamous pet.
Alterations
The original courtyard would have been filled with travelers and merchants from all across the Ostrecan Expanse and beyond! This was the main trading hub between the region and the Kendellian Empire. It is now willed with tents, and makeshift structures to house the growing number of revolting slaves.
