Coguna Settlement in Orya | World Anvil

Coguna

There is a place on the main continent of Orya that is famous for a resource that can be found there, and only there. The place is a small Cragmeri village called Coguna, and the resource is an especially hard metal that is also resistant to magic. This material is very famous, and put Coguna on the map.   Coguna is located deep into the mountains, and is difficult to traverse to for anyone unfamiliar with the area. The tunnels leading down into the mountain are very large, approximately 20 meters in both height and width, and many have steep slopes due to the relatively small width of the mountain. Curving tunnels are also very common, as that allows for deeper tunneling into the mountain. The Cragmeri within the village travel through the caves with special boots that allow them to cling to the surface of the ground, so they are unaffected by the steep slopes.   The village itself isn’t a very large village, and this is by design. The village cannot expand very much due to the limited space within the mountain. It is also run by a corrupt Cragmeri chief who wants to keep the village as small as it currently is to maintain control over the village. Visitors to the village, as well as trips outside of the village are watched very carefully by the chief and his minions. He hoards the wealth brought in by selling this metal, and the rest of the village lives in poverty.   The metal, which is known as Prismatic Steel, is quite expensive. The mining process takes days, often upwards of a week, and is very difficult. Very few know how to properly mine Prismatic Steel, and the smelting process is also quite difficult and secretive. Because of this, prices for Prismatic Steel can be upwards of 500 gold per kilogram.
