Augmoreous

An Augmoreous is a magical artifact primarily constructed and used during the New Era, and even into the early years of the First Era. They were primarily used for the amplification of magic by the Humans and the Chrysali. This was a common practice during the New Era, as many powerful magics were put to use to form nations and magical citadels. 
Augmoreouses came in many different sizes, ranging from a small variant that was used as a mobile power amplifier to a colossal variant, which typically powered citadels, allowing them to fly. Each Augmoreous had a static form when inactive, typically made in the shape of a Icosahedron, though the shape became a lot more complicated when it was active. Essentially, two shapes, typically the Icosahedron and the Dodecahedron would exist in the same space, twisting and spinning in different directions with their lines passing through one another. An Augmoreous would also shift colors while inactive and take on a single color depending on the type of magic being amplified through it. 
There used to be up to 50 Augmoreouses in existence, however they began to disappear after the early years of the First Era. The use of an Augmoreous was heavily restricted in 266 F.E. (First Era) by the Council of Archmages after a powerful Unmaker Magic user used one to nearly absorb The Atom into themselves. It is unknown what happened to the Augmoreous that have disappeared, though it is rumored they were cast into a pocket dimension rather than destroyed due to the extremely potent magic contained within them.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

To use an Augmoreous properly, you will need to have significant magical knowledge, at least to an Expert degree. This is because the amplification of whatever magic used on it will make the spell drastically harder to control. Also, the Augmoreous is a complicated device to operate to even function at all. 
To operate the Augmoreous, the first thing to do is to speak aloud the magical incantation inscribed upon its circular base. Each Augmoreous has a unique inscription on a circular base that is required to activate it, and it is incomprehensible to anyone who doesn't have an understanding of magic to a certain degree. Upon speaking aloud the inscription, the Augmoreous will begin to float and emit a colored aura. At this point, the user will need to begin casting a spell that they would like to be amplified, and allow the magical rings of the spell to touch the aura of the Augmoreous. The Augmoreous will then change color depending on the school of magic that the spell belongs to, and will amplify the effect of that spell to a great extent. The extent to which the spell is amplified depends on the size of the Augmoreous, and is multiplicative to the strength of the magic used to activate it. A small Augmoreous can amplify the magic by up to 5 times, and a colossal Augmoreous can amplify the magic up to 500 times. The Augmoreous will continue to amplify and cast the spell, even if the caster stops casting it, until the inscription is spoken aloud once more.

Significance

Augmoreouses are significant to magic users of all races, as they allow one to amplify your own magic to an incredible degree, even with a small one. They are also historically significant, as they were crucial to the functions of ancient civilizations.

Rarity

Augmoreous are very rare. Less than 10, among all sizes, still exist.
