Scene 5: At the Crossroads

Context

Chaos: 6
Owen heads to another inn, one more step to lose a tail. Oh, and he'd like to get a lead on making some money. It will take a huge pile of coin if he wishes to discover what happened at the Estate and take some kind of vengeance.   The slim blond man makes his way to a big crossroads, and heads for a merchant inn with a busy common room. Owen had a lot of time to think yesterday, as he was working out this new shape. He was going to need fat stacks of cash if he was going to discover what really happened at the Estate and take some kind of vengeance. He takes a private room (4sp). He has a meal and surveys the crowd for opportunity.   Listens without being obvious to all the conversations around him.    Oracle: does Owen overhear a rumor or conversation that will lead him to money? Roll: 20, Yes.   We're just making this up out of whole cloth. Mythic, roll twice on locations table. 03 ARTISTIC and 04 ATMOSPHERE. Brainstorming a little bit: art gallery, rainbow, high elevation, uh … how about master craft hall?, abandoned for some reason, but rumored to be full of good stuff. South and west of here, in a part of the Thur that was not under anyone's control, really, any more, but still Thur on paper. Sounds like adventure. Especially the "abandoned for some reason" part. That's never good.   Owen decides to get a good night's sleep, then head south for adventure.   Owen sleeps. -1 System Strain (to 3).

It is now Day 3

He finds a caravan headed toward Sudford and uses his last SP to buy a place in one of the wagons. He does his best to be forgettable, answering few questions with any detail, and being as boring as possible.   After spending the night in some small town...

It is now Day 4

Overnight in some small town. -1 System Strain (to 2).   Owen lets the wagon master know that he'll be staying in the town. As the caravan heads off, Natalya spends the day hidden, sorting out how to change into something like a swamp wolf, except with a pouch for the spirit egg and the best opposable thumb she can manage under the circumstances. Finally she absorbs all her gear into the new wolf form, noses the egg into her abdominal pouch, and vanishes into the woods.   The toothy predator lopes southeast, away from betrayal, toward a rumor, sniffing for game to take down for dinner.

Context

Chaos: -1 (5)
Chaos -1, in control of this scene. System Strain down to 2, recovering from the shock of the escape.   Natalya is off the grid and on the move. In the game rules, Spirit Companion is a feature that Natalya will be able to get at level 2. For the Mythic system, I’m logging a Keyed Scene, “The Egg Hatches”, triggered when Natalya is ready to level up and “spirit egg hatching and bonding with Natalya” would fit in the narrative.   I want to try a fight scene, so maybe the next chapter will start 1d8 days later, with her wandering into some abandoned settlement. Why abandoned? Probably because I don’t want to prep a bunch of townsfolk right now, but we’ll see how it plays.
