Scene 3: Into the Woods

Context

Chaos: 6
Natalya is on the run. She has made it out of the residency, and is in the wooded grounds of the Estate. She has an emergency escape backpack and an egg she stole from secure storage, because her Mentor told her to.   As Natalya runs from the hidden palace exit, she glances behind her. She sees a tall woman in expensive robes, including the highly structured corset worn only by senior ladies of the household. The woman gestures curtly and two guards step across the broken soil and into the forest to give chase, hunting hounds bounding ahead of them. Directly toward Natalya.     Two guards and perhaps a hunting hound to give chase? The only ready equipment is the pack itself, which contains the egg and Natalya‘s starting gear. The pack and gear are deliberately anonymous. (Perhaps poorly maintained? Maybe there‘s some more stuff in there but it breaks when you try to use it.)

Chase setup: Natalya starts with 3d6x5ft of gap, needs 200ft of gap to lose the pursuers, take them out with trickery or violence, or make it 500ft to the river, where she can lose them. Natalya takes 1 point of system strain for each round of sprinting (move as Action) after the third to represent exhaustion.   Natalya: 16 AC; Mage Fray ("curse") auto hits for 1d4 at 60ft. Her speed is 30. She can Punch, +2 hit, 1d8+1 damage.   The 3 dogs have 12 AC, one hit die, +2, 1d4 (stats as small pack predator) - speed 40. Dog 1: 2 HP Dog 2: 6 HP Dog 3: 3 HP   The two guards as Elite Guards (book page 283) AC 18, 3 HD, +4 atk and 1d8+1 dmg. It is in Natalya's best interests to stay the heck away from them, they will mess her up. Guard 1: 13 HP Guard 2: 11 HP     Rolled 3d6*10 for Natalya's lead, got 16. 160 ft seemed like too much lead for any excitement, so I cut it in half. 80ft gap to start with, 420 ft to the river.   Round 1: Everyone sprints. Natalya moves 60ft, 360ft to the river. Dogs close the gap to 60 ft. Guards still 80 ft behind. Natalya curses dog 1, 2HP damage, Dog 1 falls.   Round 2: Everyone sprints. Natalya moves 60ft, 300ft to the river. Dogs close the gap to 40 ft. Guards still 80 ft behind. Natalya curses dog 2, 1HP damage.   Round 3: Everyone sprints. Natalya moves 60ft, 240ft to the river, halfway there. Dogs close the gap to 20 ft. Guards still 80 ft behind. Natalya curses dog 3, 2HP damage.   Round 4: Natalya moves 30ft, 210ft to the river. Natalya curses dog 3, 3HP damage, dog 3 falls, Natalya prepares to punch dog 2. Dog 2 closes. Natalya punches Dog 2 (18 to hit), does 2HP damage (4/6). Dog 2 snaps at Natalya, (10 to hit, miss). Guards close to 50ft.   Round 5: Natalya curses Dog 3, for 1HP (5/6). Natalya punches dog 3 (22 to hit), 2 damage, dog 2 finally falls, Natalya moves 30ft., now 180ft to the river. Guards sprinting, close to 20ft. from Natalya. They, like the dogs, are ominously silent.   Rounds 6-8: Natalya sprints 180ft to the river, guards hot on her heels the whole way. For three extra rounds of sprinting, she takes 3 system strain.   Natalya dives into the river. The guards pull up on the bank just behind her.

Context

Chaos: +1 (7)
Natalya crawls out of the river (+1 more system strain) exhausted and stressed, but surprisingly otherwise unharmed. +1 Chaos   Further: The Dothranki are not _the_ House, just one of them. Old money, old power, but not a nation-state. What is around the Estate? Say the Estate is a Forbidden City style compound, areas of secure housing, workshops, and entertainment for the highest of the elite. The outer zone allows outsiders in for work and meetings. Nearby chunks of the city will be well off, with maybe one zone downwind from the Works where the poors live.
