Vandarr's: Makers of Fine Arms
Dating back to the Crimson Wars, muskets and other firearms produced by the Vandarr family are considered the highest quality weapons in all of Orliüm. Their guns last for generations if treated with the proper care. Emblazoned with a stylized "V" in steel from a forge pen, the family brand "Vandarr's, Makers of Fine Arms" has been firmly established as an institution among hunters, marksmen, duelists, and gunsmiths.
Vandarr's firearms carry a unique style. The bodies is crafted from Panam wood, a dark, strong wood with wavy grain, and the barrel is made of steel alloy. The company V is embossed on a steel plate on the sides of the stock on a musket, or along the barrel of smaller weapons. the V is applied by hand, so each firearm is signed, one-of-a-kind item.
The family amassed much of their wealth during the Crimson Wars. As the multiple nations fought for dominance, the Vandarr family took no particular side in the conflict and sold their weapons to anyone who could pay; their home region was considered neutral, since no nation could move on it without the others countering. It can be argued that the Vandarr family had a hand in escalating and prolonging the wars, though many reason that the different nations would have found other ways to kill each other anyway.
After the Brightening, Vandarr's arms held on to their reputation for high performance. However, while nobles and officers valued them as symbols of wealth and status, people after the Brightening valued them for their performance instead. Hunters want to make every shot count so they can provide for their warren, and guards want to make sure sunbeasts and vagrants are held at bay. Since Vandarr's has the best performance record, the best hunters are willing to spend much in trade for the long term investment.
