Halflings

The Halflings of Oraereum are the children of Deidren and are created in her image. Small and childlike they feel great joy in all that they do. Halfling society revolves around names signifying a people. The name is generally reflective of the culture the halflings themselves dwell in and often signifies that which the halflings value most about their people. Within each halfling society is a clan structure, each clan carries the same surname and halflings within a clan are considered immediate family. A halfling will defend a wronged clanmate as if they were brothers.

Halfling Traits

Age

A halfling reaches adulthood at the age of 20 and generally lives into the middle of his or her second century.

Size

Halflings average about 3 feet tall and weigh about 40 pounds. Your size is Small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Lucky

When you roll a 1 on the d20 for an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll.

Brave

You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.

Halfling Nimbleness

You can move through the space of any creature that is of a size larger than yours.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Halfling. The Halfling language isn’t secret, but halflings are loath to share it with others. They write very little, so they don’t have a rich body of literature. Their oral tradition, however, is very strong. Almost all halflings speak Common to converse with the people in whose lands they dwell or through which they are traveling.

Strongheart Halfling Traits

Strongheart Resilience

Lightfoot Halfling Traits

Lightfoot Stealth

Lightfoot halflings can attempt to hide when they are obscured only by a creature that is at least one size larger than you.

Lightfoot Halflings in Oraereum

Personality

Lightfoots are tricksters and jokesters. Lightfoots tend to make light of any situation and throw caution to the wind. A lightfoot takes great pride in their sense of humor and even greater pride in taking nothing too serious. To a lightfoot a sour disposition is a sure sign of not enough fun in life. Lightfoots tend to see the brighter, lighter side of all things.

Relations

Like all halflings lightfoots have few, if any, racial animosities. They are no friend to goblins, giants or trolls but they have not suffered great wars at their hands. Lightfoots get along very well with wood elves as both consider themselves to have close ties to nature; however Lightfoots much prefer wide open spaces to the deep woods. Dwarves have a hard time understanding the lightfoots and consider them too immature for true allies but still consider them harmless and much better than elves. Humans have a fairly neutral view on halflings and gnomes tend to get along well with them as both are extremely curious races.

Alignment

Lightfoots are carefree as the wind and as such trend towards the chaotic spectrum. Lightfoots are also creatures of good and as such most favor good over evil or neutral.

Lightfoot Lands

Lightfoots hail from The Heartlands. Lightfoots dwell near the rivers and streams of The Heartlands and some have even moved within the Blackrock Forest.

Religion

Lightfoots generally worship their creator Deidren but many also worship Teverus and Baerad for the sun and the earth. Lightfoots usually have no formal religious community or church but some halflings feel the stronger call and seek to preach far and wide her words.

Strongheart Halflings in Oraereum

Personality

A strongheart is boastful and proud to a fault. Still, like all halflings they have a generally friendly disposition to all friendly neighbors. A strongheart loves to work and many find solace in their craft. Stronghearts are usually very competitive and can become even more competetive around the 'tall-folk.'

Relations

Stronghearts have a good relationship with dwarves compared to other halflings because they share a similar competitive nature to the dwarves of the earth. Stronghearts have a tenser relationship with elves of any kind due to their nature as most elves see the competitions the stronghearts enjoy as a waste of time. To most pride is a sin but to a strongheart pride is a way of life.

Alignment

Stronghearts live a very disciplined life due to the strict training routines they go through and as such tend to be lawful in nature. Stronghearts are usually good in nature and tend to treat all beings with a general respect as long as they treat the Strongheart with equal respect.

Strongheart Lands

Stronghearts hail from The Heartlands as well. Stronghearts prefer the rolling hills, shrublands and rocky areas for their cities. They are the primary inhabitants of the cities of Eastwall and Westwall and also have settlements near and within the edges of the Blackrock Mountains.

Religion

Stronghearts revere their creator Deidren but also pay great respect to Baerad for his bounty from the earth. Baerad is also considered to be the protector of Strongheart cities and villages. Most halflings who feel the call of their god venture forth bringing healing and preaching good words to different villages and towns.
