Boundary Walkers

"While one can become attached even to an alien while living with them constantly, a Mopi'oi should always prioritize their fellow kin before anything else. Mutual support would not only allow us to survive in this foreign land, but would also hasten our collective growth of knowledge of this world. To this end, fellow Boundary Walkers who have had their communication arcane capabilities stunted too much in their traversal should use the Sigil to identify themselves to others."
-excerpt from Survival Tricks for OPO1 by Boundary Walker Kirin Cibirinon Tar'his, the Explorer

Structure

A Boundary Walker is any individual who traverses the Boundary, either with society's permission or without. Thus it cannot be called an institution in the classic sense however, the perils of OPO1 encourage traversers of all kinds to help each other and a network of relations has emerged as a result. That is especially true if one's host is not particularly bright or helpful.

Public Agenda

While most Boundary Walkers are associated with either a scientific or military institution and further the collective goal of obtaining freedom from the Inner Plane for all Mopi'oi, some are voluntary independent intrepids or exiles. These seek to experience the new world they find themselves in or merely to survive in it.

Assets

Most of the institutionally sanctioned Boundary Walkers reside in the city-states of Gardun's Belt. For centuries there they have guided the humans, accelerating their technological and cultural development, first by the introduction of iron smelting. Certain islands were ideal due to volcanoes that constantly produce lava rich in iron. The most daring societies have channeled lava rivers in dug up stream beds, allowing for extraction while it is still fluid and thus easier to process. Currently, scientists there are developing experimental blast furnaces which will allow for the production of higher quality iron.   As society in these islands has fully transitioned to slave systems, individual Boundary Walkers can become extremely wealthy and through that wealth, control a high number of slaves and elected government officials. The Boundary Walker Sigil is used by traversers to organize meetings between them in secret, offering help to each other and furthering the goal of study of the Outer Plane.

History

The earliest recorded Mopi'oi who traversed the Boundary were in the gigasecond 3426 of the Inner Plane Standard Time (IPST) or in Outer Plane Standard Cycle (OPSC) 4580. Study of the Boundary Portals suggests that they first became active 144 gigaseconds before that time, which was chosen as cycle 0 of the OPSC. It is unknown how many, if any, Mopi'oi have entered the Outer Plane in that time period.
