The Radiant Blade

The cloth slid away to reveal a long sword's hilt. The pommel shone with a solid ball, a protection rune etched into the base. The grip was wrapped in Manticore leather, lending its protection from charms and spells to the sword. The cross-guard's metal slightly curved up toward the blade and thrummed with power. While the cloth did not fall to reveal the blade itself, I knew that delicate runic script traveled up the fuller, blessing the blade with the magic of the Gods.

The Radiant Blade, so titled because it often glows with power, belongs to the Grand Master of The Order of the Radiant Blade. The person who wields this sword is known as Bearer of the Radiant Blade. The sword is sentient and will communicate telepathically with it's Bearer. Once the sword selects a bearer, it will bond with them. The bond manifests as a intricate gold tattoo-like signature that is 'etched' across the bearer's skin.
The Radiant Blade went missing during the 40 Days War. No one is sure what happened to the Blade, but the then-bearer was killed in combat during some intense fighting. After the dust settled, the Blade was nowhere to be found. This is the longest The Order of the Radiant Blade operated without a Grand Master. Almost a hundred years passed before the sword is seen again, apparently hiding in some witch's linen closet. The reason it was found was because the sword selected a new Bearer.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The runic script written on the blade is by priests from the Veiled Realms where it came from. The Gods of that Realm are unknown to the Mortal Realm. It is said that the sword's sentience comes from the Gods' blessing to ensure only those who are truly worthy will wield the blade.

History

It was first wield by Theodas Oloric, who came from the Veiled Realms. The sword was originally created in his Realm and uses material that is not found in the Mortal Realm. Theodas came from the Veiled Realms following the demons that attacked his Realm. He decided to stay in this Realm and protect it since this Realm was unable to protect itself from the demons. After the death of Theodas, the sword chose a new bearer and the fight to protect the Mortal Realm continue.
The sword disappeared during the 40 Days War when the then-bearer, Royce Burton, was killed in battle. Once the battle was over, the sword had disappear. It was almost a hundred years before the sword was seen again.

The blade is made with a metal not from the Mortal Realm. The metal is strong but lightweight, making the large sword easy to handle. The manticore leather is wrapped around the grip of the sword. This gives the sword the ability to ward itself from spells and charms.
