Ruins of Ephera

Image by janvavrusa on deviant art
Found in the North of Maalta, overlooking the narrow valleys and towering mountains of Vesuvula, this early settlement has for years been turned to ruin. It was once home to the first Genasi of Maalta. They called themselves the kingdom of Ephera (Named after their Goddess of life) and rules under the church. (A theocracy) They were living happily and where one of the most developed settlements next to Balance in Breace.   They were thriving and growing at an astonishing rate, until they heard an angry war cry...

I was on my way home from another day of construction on yet another residential area when something changed in the air. The sweltering desert heat turned cold and icy, a deadly breeze rustling the linen hung out to dry. It was strange, it was ... quiet, we had no idea what we had gotten into by building here.   I picked up my pace, rushing to see if my family was okay. I had reached my door, I could here the children screaming and laughing inside. "Just a change in weather," I had thought to myself,"it's not like anything bad could happen-" My eyes grew wider as a malicious roar pierced the air. A chilling silence gripped the streets once again, slowly, screams started to grow louder and denser in every minute. In the moments of panic to come, I ran into the house, yelled for and grabbed the kids, trying my hardest to get us out of the city and away from the paining wails.   Running out of the city, we were joined by other families, drunks, beggars and rich, all running from an unknown enemy. Our social statuses, our past experiences, they meant nothing at this point, we just ran, afraid to look back at the sea of screams. All but me, I turned back to face the threat, but the face I saw filled me with regret. A creature of unimaginable horror swooped into the streets, blowing the flesh off of the civilians trailing behind. It looked as if it was made of the elements itself, a face that is constantly moving and changing, a body that floats and trails behind it. It produced winds so strong that buildings fell as if they were made of cards. It destroyed the land, wrecking the residence we had spent oh so long building up, but that wasn't what was troubling me, I just darted me and my daughters away from this monstrosity before we ended up the same as our neighbors.   We were fortunate enough to escape, unfortunately, many had not. We are now the Maaltans of today, afraid that if we settle down in one place, those beasts will return...

Purpose / Function

Now days, the people of Breace, Vesuvula, Tedepris and Klinkidok like to view the ruins of Ephera as a tourist destination. The Maaltans have started doing tours of the ruins to make an extra buck

Alterations

After their destruction, not much has been done to try and rebuild the temple, but instead a gate and a ticket booth have been installed

Architecture

Before the destruction, it had a very Moorish type of architecture and these styles can still be seen in the wandering travelers today
