Never-Night

Tucked away on the side of the Cloud Scraper mountain lies Never-Night. Sometimes referred to as "The City of Waterfalls" this small capital is home to many raging rivers, exotic plants and citizens.   Located in one of the most exotic regions in all of Obrios, Never-Night attracts scholars and traders who seek to capitalize on the many mysteries and undiscovered flora and fauna of the region. The city itself is also home to the Grand Visarium, the largest vision library in all of Obrios.   Although Never-Night is the youngest capital on Obrios, the past strongly influences the city and is revered here more than any other.

Demographics

Never-Night has a very wide demographic, as does most of Eshalla, but there is a noticeable increase in the amount of native Tabaxi and small humanoid races.

Government

The region of Eshalla is run by a Meritocratic government, lead by a High-Seer. The High-Seer is always a Vucboon or "Chosen one" as they are sometimes referred to. A High-Seer is chosen because of their ability to see the Visions of others and is also considered to be a religious figure of the highest Dawn. Though the High-Seer is technically the head of the government and makes all the executive decisions, there is also a senate that operates under the High-Seer and oversees most of the day to day problems of the region, leaving the High-Seer to do more important tasks.   If the High-Seer dies of old age or is killed, the Senate will continue to run Eshalla, with the government becoming a republic until a new Vucboon is discovered.

Defences

Unlike the other cities in Obrios, Never-Night is completely open and has no outer walls. However, the city itself is located on the side of the Cloud Scraper mountain and there is only one entrance into the city. In order to enter you must take a gondola lift from the base of the mountain to the first tier of the city. If an invading force were to attack, the city can redirect the waterfalls that power the gondola lifts and stop them from moving. The only access to the upper tiers of the city are accessible via lifts which can also be shut down by redirecting waterfalls.

Industry & Trade

Never-Night's most important asset is its knowledge. The city is home to the Grand Visarium and keeps track of every vision recorded throughout the history of Obrios. The Eshallan's do not like using the Dawnstones to power technology and therefore all their trade is done via wagons and trade caravans through the jungle. The local traders will bring their goods to either Westfront or Storm Stream Gorge which will then be traded with another trader (usually from Storms Break). The primary exports of Eshalla are its unique plants and fish. The primary imports are chips from Storms Break and recordings of visions from the other cities and towns across Obrios.

Infrastructure

Eshalla prefers to use other forms of technology aside from the Dawnstones because of their religious beliefs. This has lead them to develop interesting new methods of generating power, mostly powered by the flowing water from the rivers and streams of the Cloud Scraper mountain. Examples of this is the hydro powered gondola lift that grants access to the city or the various lifts that transport citizens from one tier of the city to the next.

Assets

The lush jungles around Never-Night provide plenty of exotic fruits and other forms of plant life that can be used for medicine. The two most valuable examples being the Nervous Iwoo fruit and the medicinal Glow Windroot.

Guilds and Factions

Eshalla is divided into three major guilds/orders:   The Seekers: In charge of managing and cataloguing all the visions of Obrios. They operate out of the Grand Visarium.   The Storm Union: Tasked with predicting and watching for storms and The Weeping as well as supplying all of the Storm Warden outposts in Obrios. Even though the Storm Union is based in Never-Night, they are also in charge of managing the supplies in all of the outposts in Shaira as well.   The World Singers Association: The world singers association is the primary trade guild in Obrios. Although the two most important sections of the guild are in Storms Break and Nen Doral, Eshalla is home to the most World Singers because of the large distances between village and the lack of technology to help transport the trade goods.

History

Although Eshalla was one of the first regions settled after the Vucboon left Nen Doral, Never-Night was actually the last capital city to be settled. This is because upon arriving in Eshalla, the Vucboon (lead by the Eshala'thenian tribe) struggled greatly to adapt to the dramatic amount of precipitation. The climate was so unlike anything that they had experienced before that they almost abandoned the region. On their way retreat out of the region, the tribe got caught in a particularly aggressive Weeping and many of them were wiped out. Fortunately a woman named Enania Eshala'jara noticed a flock of Beanaber's heading towards the Cloud Scraper mountain. Enania convinced the tribe to follow the Beanaber's and they were led to a section of the mountain that sheltered them from The Weeping. It was here that the tribe decided to settle and began to create the foundations that became Never-Night.

Architecture

A lot of the city is made from the stone of the Cloud Scraper mountain, though the buildings are made of a mix of materials, most of them incorporating plants from the region to help waterproof/ storm proof the buildings.   The city itself is built into three tiers. Each tier is connected by a large lift, powered by one of the many waterfalls in the city. The first tier of the city is the market and trade tier. The gondolas drop its occupants here. The second tier is primarily used for housing and is the only tier that is partially carved into the mountain. The third and final tier is the home of the Grand Visarium and is where the High-Seer and the rest of the government operate from.

Geography

Never-Night is located 600 meters up the southern side of the Cloud Scraper mountain. The city is sheltered in between two sections of the large mountain range and a gondola is required in order to reach the city. Large waterfalls run throughout the city and power the various basic forms of technology in the city. These waterfalls continue down the side of the mountain until they reach Restless Basin at the bottom. The water then flows out of the basin and becomes the Restless river, which runs all the way to the Great Ocean.

Natural Resources

The city itself does not provide any natural resources of note, however, the surrounding region of Eshalla is one of the most diverse and lush areas in all of Obrios and provides many forms of useful exotic flora and fauna.
