Fateless

There are two kinds of Fateless in Obrios.   The first type of Fateless is one who completes The Rising, but when attempting to bond with a Dawnstone, instead they drain it and are unable to bond with the Dawnstone. The second type of Fateless are the Yoxai people, who are always born as Fateless. Not much is known about the Yoxai, but it is believed that both types of Fateless do not receive visions upon touching Dawnstones.   When someone who is not a Yoxai becomes Fateless, their eyes become stark white (If they are not already) and they are usually branded with a branching scar, starting from where they touched the Dawnstone.   While the two share many similarities, the most notable is that when a Fateless touches a Dawnstone, the Dawnstone is drained of all its power and is no longer able to recharge and becomes "dull" or "dun".   Fateless are considered to be rejected by the gods themselves and most choose to either abandon their faith upon becoming Fateless, or devote their life to earning the gods favor.

Causes

The cause of one to become Fateless is still unknown, however most consider it to be a rejection by the gods.

Symptoms

Ones eyes immediately turn stark white. A branching scar appears from where one tried to bond with the Dawnstone. Upon touching a Dawnstone, all the energy is drained and the Dawnstone becomes Dull.

Treatment

There is currently no treatment for Fateless. Some will cover their skin completely in order to avoid touching Dawnstones, but most choose to be exiled from society.

History

The fist Fateless was discovered in 108AG. It was a woman named Ameena. Ameena was discovered after she completed The Rising at the age of 18, she reached the top of the Kestramore Steps and was unable to bond to any of the Dawnstones. Unsure of what to do or how to treat her, Ameena was executed 3 days after her return. The first Fateless to not be executed was a man named Petekas in the year 121AG. Instead Petekas was exiled.   The Yoxai were discovered in 736AG, more than 500 years after the discovery of the first Fateless. The Yoxai are the only race known to be entirely Fateless.

Cultural Reception

Fateless in society are heavily rejected and are usually cast out from their homelands. It is very hard for Fateless to survive in a society as nobody wants them around for fear of them draining their Dawnstones. There have been Fateless known to cover all exposed skin completely and serve as servants or stewards to wealth families or traders, but these Fateless usually come from weathly families themselves. Some Fateless keep their Dawnstone after they complete The Rising, even though it has been drained. These Fateless will give their Dawnstone to someone who they deem worthy of their service and will serve whoever is in possession of their Dawnstone. While this type of Fateless isn't seen often, it is believe that they are trying to serve in order to try and gain favor of the gods.   Most Fateless choose to leave the society in which they were raised and join a smaller community on the outskirts of the world.
