Half-Way Point

Half-Way Point is an oasis in the exact middle of Dreagor, owned by none of the three competing factions. There are three rules:
No one may harm another.
No one may steal.
No one may attempt to lay claim to it.
These three rules cover nearly all acts of violence committed here, making it a very peaceful place. Half-Way Point is primarily a marketplace. It does not have any corporations or building and business laws, but rather functions like a mini town, in which debates are solved by people, and no one owns anything except the things they are selling. All buildings constructed there are temporary, because is one were to construct a house made of dirt, that would imply that they own the dirt, breaking one of the three rules of Half-Way Point. All buildings are rather stands or carts selling things. In no way permanent, and easy to take down. The vendors of the stand have the right to refuse service to someone they believe they don’t want to sell to (such as entitled people). The oasis itself is a beach of sorts, being able to be swam in, but it is also the source of the towns water. Being spring fed, it is possible to drink the water without getting sick, but there is a free water purifying business near the oasis. All water is purified through the sun, using two buckets and a downward tilting pane of glass. There are several purifiers and there is almost always fresh water available. Crime (e.g. breaking one of the three rules) is dealt with the same way all other conflicts are dealt with at Half-Way Point. By the people affected. If someone is accused of hurting someone else, they will talk to them. They’ll talk to their acquaintances, find out about any violent tendencies or anger issues they might have. If they are found guilty, the victim will decide punishment. If they think this warrants greater punishment, such as being kicked out of town, they will appeal to other salespeople. If they agree, the punishment will be carried out.

Geography

Half-Way Point is a beautiful oasis with many plants and animals (at least many more than the rest of Dreagor). It has a giant rock formation in the immediate vicinity, an overhang which provides shade.

Fauna & Flora

Several species of grasses and ferns thrive near the oasis’s edge, as well as a few palm trees. The palm trees are the same species as the ones found in Okana, so it is most likely someone planted a few here as opposed to them growing naturally. Several species of fish also live here. It is suspected that they swam up Scorpion Channel for one reason or another, and then evolved to live here. A species of roadrunner known as the desert hen also makes its home here. This species is significantly meatier that the average roadrunner, and cannot run as fast. They have been partially domesticated, still living in the oasis vegetation, just more accustomed to humans. You might even see some wandering around the marketplace. These hens are often killed for selling and eating in the marketplace. Eaten cooked, it tastes mildly sour, but also mildly sweet. Paired with some Scorchfruit and fish meat, it makes a great and iconic Dreagor dish. Grain can be harvested from a plant called Thistle-wheat. The bread made from it isn’t the best, but it is the only wheat able to survive in Dreagor’s heat.

History

Half-Way Point is the place where the third War of the Wastes was ended via treaty. Since then it has been a safe haven for anyone passing through Dreagor.

Tourism

Even if you are just passing through Dreagor, Half-Way Point is a great place to visit to stock up on all of the things you need, and just to see it. One of the longest running businesses is the inn. It is a giant tent with cots in the floors for a bunch of people can sleep. It is not the most comfortable, but the rules of Half-Way Point make it so that is cannot be a permanent building.
