Mind Rot

Knowledge is a powerful thing and those who wield it are able to achieve incredible feats. They can manifest and control the elements, stay mortality or serious wounds, enter and manipulate people's dreams and thoughts, The possibilities are limitless. Though as powerful as knowledge may-be there is some that should never be learned. Knowledge that should be left to slumber and remain forgotten.   Mind rot is an affliction of the curious and academic. Those who consume and retain corrupted knowledge are afflicted by mind rot which eats away at the mind. Memories, knowledge, and motor functions are all at risk of mind rot, in time the afflicted is left as nothing more than a husk.

Transmission & Vectors

A person can transmit the affliction by spreading the corrupted knowledge. This can be but is not limited to writing, speaking, or drawing.

Causes

Learning of corrupted knowledge.

Symptoms

  • Dissociative fugue
  • Loss of memory
  • Hallucinations
  • Loss of motor functions
  • Paranoia
  • Fixation

Treatment

There is no known treatment of the affliction, many studies have been conducted through pursuits are limited as risks are high.

Prevention

The only way to prevent the spread of the affliction is the destruction or hiding of corrupted knowledge.

The Latched.
The latched is a divine faction of Arkeome the god of knowledge. They believe that knowledge should be protected and guarded only learned by those who are meant to learn it. One of the functions of the divine faction is the recovery of corrupted knowledge and bringing it back to the sickening shelves for protection.
The Sickened Shelves.
The sickened shelves is the largest collection of corrupted knowledge in Oaken'Ash. The Latched are the guardians of the sickened knowledge, believing that the destruction of knowledge would be wrong as someday there may be persons the knowledge is intended for.
