Era beginning/end
The Treaty of Arthein was the end of the VeilStrife and the beginning of the Years of Peace.
The Treaty of Arthein spelled the end of the VeilStrife, the long, bloody, cataclysmic conflict that dominated the end of the previous edge, wherein warring empires, whose war machines were powered by the Veil and the Pillars, were caught in a cycle of constant, lethal escalation. At the time, Arthein, or the lands that would one day become the great City of Arthein, was coveted by all sides as it stood in the center of the web of the Veil between all the Pillars. As such the area was an incredibly powerful source of magic and therefore desired by all parties. Once at least two of these imperial powers recognized the senslessness of this war, and began to ally for the purposes of peace, the war hit its downslope. As the alliance grew, one nation at a time, the other nations became more and more outmatched. Finally delegations from all twelve nations gathered together at the site of Arthein to work out a treaty whereby the VeilStrife could never happen again. A major part of the treaty focused on ensuring the independence of the eight towers and temples of the Pillars (and Arthein itself) and setting up rules whereby these places would self-rule without being recognized as sovereign states. No empire would ever again obtain the incredible power of a Pillar.
