The Guild of Shadows

Structure

1. Arm of the Mage-the leader of the organization. 2.The Hand-the Arm's right hand, and gives assignments to Hands. 3.Shadows-the foot soldiers and spies of the organization. 4. Spiders-the information gatherers of the organization.   Below are these are spies on retainer, non magic users or desperate fools who somehow ended up in the employ of the Guild, and are used either for grunt work, suicide missions, or bodyguards for true Shadows.

Culture

The culture of The Guild is one of secrets, and fearing power, and thus members highly covet whatever knowledge and magical artifacts they come across, and view everyone--warlock or otherwise--as dangerous if they have this knowledge.

Public Agenda

The goal of The Guild is to catalogue and collect potentially dangerous magical items or arcane lore, and to put a stop to dangerous individuals using magic to do harm.

Assets

The Shadow is an organization that spans most of Nosirend, backed by the three big mage colleges, and boasting around 1,000 members.

History

The Guild of Shadows was originally founded by the heads of the college of Emeron, and at first their goal was to attain equal rights for magic users. But realizing the other problems involved in Verte-Paysage's lack of a unifying government body--the country being nothing more than a collection of free cities--and how these led to a lack of oversight for magic users, the group then became on unofficial peace keeping force against rogue warlock's or witches. Fearing that their efforts might lead to problems with rulers of the free cities, the organization began to work in secret, allowing them to gather information on arcane lore without trouble from anti-mage sympathizers. The group then expanded to other parts of the world around the mid 1700s, when the two other big named mage colleges caught wind of this shadow organization. For though there was more oversight in the eastern countries, there were still small communities who had no knowledge or help in dealing with magical threats, and some places even outright ignored the problem, or made it worse. Still, secrecy was key, and thus this group silently infiltrated much of the world--or at least parts of it that fell within the scope of the colleges--hiding amongst communities as a simple traveller, or a healer from a distant, though in truth some of these might be Spiders gathering intel on a mad pyromancer.
