Purpose / Function

Originally a military hospital, this building soon function as a catch all in the medical field, with a whole wing dedicated to researching diseases, and even a psych ward.

Aside from the general hospital, their is also the eastern wing--dedicated to surgeries and long term treatments-- the psych ward, and on the northern end of the hospital is the academy, where med students from across eastern Verte-Paysage would study under the the most respected heads of the medical world.

History

Constructed in 1865, this hospital was founded by John Taverrit, and was meant to be a general hospital before the territory wars of Eastern Verte-Paysage broke out a month later. After his death in the latter half of the war, the hospital was dedicated in his honor. Up until the mid 1870s, the hospital was exclusive to those serving in the military, but that all changed once conflicts became less sever in Eastern Verte-Paysage, thus the need arose to open up to the public. With this came an increase in the type of care needed at the hospital, and thus the surgery/treatment wing was added in the early 1880s, and soon after came the research center, which studied new and existing diseases, as well as a psych ward in 1886. The hospital was on a fast track to becoming the center of medicine--it already had its own academy to boot--but all that came to a crashing halt, once John Taverrit's son took control from John's brother Murphy. Through 1887-1889, the hospital suffered from poor management, shoddy medical practices, till finally it all came crashing down, when a strain of gut-ruption escaped the sterilized confinement of the research center. Nearly half of the staff and patients of the hospitla died in the ensuing plague, and the Committee of Verte-Paysage quickly quarantined the hospital, and moved any survivors to private apothecaries throught Eastern Verte-Paysage. Since then the hospital has been closed, and due to ensuing legal battles over which free-city should control the hospital, the chances of it reopening are remote.

Tourism

Though the legal battle over the hospital is the official reason for its indefinite closure, many believe it's because people are afraid to step foot in the hospital. The few visitors that the hospital receive are mystics and thrill seekers who attest that the hospital is haunted, and over the years various reports have circulated of phantom screams echoing throughout the halls, and a strange feeling of being watched Aside from those brave few that would step into this disgraced sanctuary of healing, the hospital receives little to no tourists.
