Clan Leader

The position held by the husband of the Chieftess. He worked to cover the inter-clan relations, including trade and warfare. Traditionally subservient to the Chieftess, Emperor Achus set new precedent for the unheeded power of the Clan Leader.

Appointment

The Chieftess selects a list of possible suitors, which is reviewed by the elders, a group of advisors to the Chieftess. They pare the list down to the options that all members are happy with, which the Chieftess then selects from if there are multiple options. If the elders are not happy with any of the options, they can reject everyone and force the Chieftess to form a new list of suitors.

Duties

Represent the will of the Chieftess in foreign lands. Spread the diplomaic good will of the Merkish people.

Responsibilities

Organization of levies. Command of Armies. Travel to foreign negotiations.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The bond of marriage can only be broken by a unanimous decision among the elders, with final veto given to the Chieftess.
