Religion

The Mancers worship the 5 God-Makers, the living gods who founded the religion and promis godhood to their followers after death in return for helping them achieve unity and prosperity in the world through the 5's rule. The cult seems to focus on spreading their word, absorbing existing rituals and creating communities of their beliefs.  The five living gods are:
  • The Technomancer: A god of technology and progress
  • The Necromancer: A god of death and rebirth
  • The Floramancer: A god of life and pleasure
  • The Ferromancer: A god of justice and vengance
  • The Religomancer: A god of faith and healing
It is said these five are former adventurers. Little is known beyond that about them or their cult.

Mythology & Lore

The Tale of the God-Makers Once upon a time, there were five heroes. These great champions wandered the land and gained great fame. They protected the weak, delved into dangerous dungeons, sought glorious treasures and investigated great mysteries. The five fought many monsters and braved many dangers. They struck down all who opposed them and fought for the good of the people. They were loved by many and despised by all those who feared their might. These heroes also trained many students each a hero in their own right. But despite these victories, and many glories, they each carried a sadness in their hearts. The Technomancer most of all cried bitter tears as they saw the tragedy of the world. It was inflexible, cruel, and infected by so much evil. Every time the heroes struck down one evil, another took its place. But the Technomancer did not despair for they sought the answer. In their studies they found a secret. A secret that could change everything. The Technomancer studied the secret and found the path to godhood. The power to right the wrongs of this world. And they became the God of Progress. When the people saw them, they prayed to this new god and the Technomancer taught them inspiration, creativity, evolution. They provided change for a stagnant world. In joy, the Technomancer took this discovery to their companions. “Look what I have found! This secret can do what we have always wished! To help others and do what is right.” Their companions reacted with disgust. “Why should we try to be more than we are? We should be true to ourselves and not chase some outlandish dream.” The Necromancer proclaimed. “We cannot try to usurp the natural course. That can only bring harm.” Argued the Floramancer. “To try to mold the world to our will through such means does not serve true justice.” Scolded the Visomancer. “We should not impose our will so freely on others, that is not true faith.” Said the Religomancer. The Technomancer was disheartened, for they knew that their dream could only be made real with the help of their companions. So the Technomancer sullenly agreed to hide the secret away. Many moons passed and the heroes took their finest students on a quest to save a fractured kingdom. They failed. The heroes had never endured such loss. Some of their students died, others were scattered and two betrayed the heroes. Each and every hero felt a blow to the core of their soul. The Technomancer returned to the secret. “We must use this secret to ensure what has happened will never happen again.” Again, their companions turned their backs to the Technomancer. But the Necromancer heeded these words and partook of the secret. The Necromancer became the God of Death. When the people saw him, they prayed to this new god. The Necromancer taught them of the necessity of death for new life, the power of connection and family and the knowledge that death can impart. The Technomancer and Necromancer returned to their companions. “We must use this power to make a better world!” They argued. Again, the companions turned their backs but the Floramancer listened and partook of the secret. The Floramancer became the God of Joy. When the people saw him, they prayed to this new god. He taught them the joy of cultivation, the ways to use the bounty of the earth to serve their desires and ways to harness their inner selves. The new gods returned to their companions. “Please, join us. We will right the wrongs of the world.” Again, their companions turned their backs but the Visomancer heeded this call and partook of the secret. The Visomancer became the God of Justice. When the people saw her, they prayed to this new god. She taught them the true way of justice, of righteous vengeance, and the philosophies on which to keep honest and true. The four returned, for the Religomancer had not yet joined them. “Come with us!” They pleaded. “We wish to start this great work and do wonderful things!” The Religomancer finally assented and partook of the secret. The Religomancer became the God of Knowledge. When the people saw him, they prayed to this new god. He taught them the pursuit of knowledge, the power of logic, craft and skill. Now, once again the gods were united. They declared their quest, becoming the glorious God-Makers. They shared their secret with the allies who proved their loyalty and conviction. These powerful few became the gods that serve the God-Makers, Marching onward to build a better world. But beware, for there are those who would oppose the gods, the fallen few who wish to undermine all that the God-Makers wish to create. Beware the two-faced Wraith of Secrets who covets knowledge and wears a lying smile. And beware the God of Lies who proclaims his falsehoods truth. But most of all beware the Beast of Madness who seeks to thieve the power of the Gods. All three weave crafty schemes to ensnare the unwary and their servants roam the lands Be vigilant, oh faithful. For we too must walk the path the God-Makers give to us, to fulfill their glorious vision and attain our fabulous destiny. So be faithful, patient, vigilant and strong. We will prevail. -From the Tale of the God Makers by Hershi the Heretic
