Nirando's population

Up on the surface due the lack of land there are only small animals like birds, insects, reptiles, amphibians, some mice like creatures and the biggest of them all are humans and tritons. This breed always walked along side with humans, so their origin it’s only folklore tales. The tritons also are extremely similar to humans being both undistinguishable on plain sight, they have only twice the pulmonary capacity but this it’s not because of the size of their torsos, they have a better internal system who can handle the lack of air twice as efficient compared to humans, they also have a system that protects their organs to fail on big pressure variations and be able to handle high pressures, the appreciable anatomy differences are an extra translucent eyelid, which allow them to see effortlessly underwater, and the capacity of bending their legs forward, this subtle differences make the tritons legs way more efficient for swimming, allow them to swim at average fish speed. But the open ocean it’s not a place to play, because underwater creatures lurk and hunt, using more than their sight, unaware swimmers might never come back to the surface, water creatures on this water planet have taken a big shift, some of them produce electricity, some of them echolocate their prays, other ones hide under the sand waiting to catch their food but those are known the terror of the deep are the undocumented creatures, folk tell about a particularly dark shadow that appears, changing the current and cracking for days until it disappears, some voyagers tell stories of tribes who live on a crab shell of hundreds of foots, the folk port witch switches places it’s a port that sits on top of a colossal turtle and every child hear the story of the boat eater, a whale like creature who can easily swallow a vessel.
