Goblins

Goblins are the friendliest fellows around. They may hide away in underground caverns, scheming and tinkering with their evil looking grins but in reality they are great to be around. Once around the insistent peddling of the wares they’ve poured purpose into, it’s easy to discover their hearts of gold through a few minutes of amicable conversation.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Goblins are of a short and stout humanoid build. They range from the tiny and scrawny to the petite and bulbous but never with muscle or height close to a human.

Growth Rate & Stages

In the first three years of its life a goblin is considered an infant, unable to do very much besides eat and cry. From the age of five until they reach adulthood at fifteen is when they are most unruly, finally developing a good intellect alongside a more able body, but lacking severely in wisdom.

Ecology and Habitats

Goblins do not like the bright light of the Skybreak or being outside in general. They find contentment deep underground in grottoes lit by shiny crystals and torches.

Dietary Needs and Habits

In a subterranean habitat there is little to eat despite cave fungi, moles, and worms. Thankfully, goblins love all of these options and due to their small bodies and the high temperate of the caverns around them, require very little to eat anyway.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Broadly, goblins never leave their families and childhood friends behind, the social bonds are far too strong and positive to allow for that. Instead they will spend their lives helping the community they grew up within, in order to give back for it raising them.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

In Desmunda goblins stay just north of the Brimstone Wastes in the Underground Kingdom of Catamain where they can mine precious gemstones without the deadly risks of magma everywhere.

Average Intelligence

As a prerequisite to their trade, the goblin miners of Catamain need to be highly acquainted with all manners of geological formations and materials, including their use as Objects for the Flare. Subsequently, they are well trained and tutored within their mining colonies, far exceeding the educations of other nations. Generally, the bottom line is: if it involves the Flare, a goblin will be intimately acquainted and knowledgeable about it.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Living underground so long has lead to many goblins having horrendous hearing. Partly due to damage from the deafening din of explosive mining and collapsing caves. So far this has not troubled goblinfolk, because their hearing is still sufficient enough to hold conversation.
