Haplàtkhaar

The Haplàtkhaar are one of the formerly enslaved species in the Glimmering's fleet stock; freed by Humanity in the rebellion, they have been since part of the Terran Union.   Enslaved approximately 300 years before humanity, the species has no recollection of neither its history nor name; until the year 2360, the species was just referred to as Human 12, given it had no recollection of their homeplanet.   As a human species, Haplàtkhaar share the same rights as any other citizen of the Union.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Naming traditions in Haplàtkhaar culture followed strict rules dictated by the surrounding environment at the time of birth.   A common Haplàtkhaar name was usually composed, in order, by:
  • Year and month of birth (or the equivalent of such system)
  • Number of people assisting the birth
  • Colour of the following day's sunset
  • Animal associated with the day of the birth
  • Name of the discipline of the week of the birth
Other, less common, naming traditions either removed some of these entries or used different ones such as deities or names of nearby geographical landmarks.

Major Organizations

The Haplàtkhaar, being one of the biggest non-human minorities, hold major political influence in the Union.   As of 2580, Haplàtkhaar representatives are the ruling party in Outpost Island and among the biggest parties in Gwebe and the Jishou Islands.

Beauty Ideals

In a Haplàtkhaar it is considered beautiful a vibrant coilouration of the harvesting forelimbs, bright eye and collar colouration and physical and mental strength.   It is also considered beautiful for two Haplàtkhaar to share at least one naming entry; although this last one is not dictated by a physical or psychological character, it is still often listed by them as a sign of beauty when describing a person.   Other sought after characters are wideness and height of the caudal sails, thickness of the dermis of the digits, length of the horns and the sound of the vibrating mouthpieces.

Gender Ideals

Modern Haplàtkhaar culture reflects much the human ideals of gender equality.   Pre-Reshtu culture, however, allegedly suffered from great inequality issues, with the society being run by matriarchal figures from the richest families.   Females were generally offered better treatments and positions while males were given lower paying jobs and often used for manual labour by the higher class.

Relationship Ideals

The Haplàtkhaar are monogamous, only having one partner each, unless of the same sex or a different sophont, in which case they can have multiple, although this varies from one subculture to the other.   The Haplàtkhaar strongly bond with family and friends in the same way as with the partner, seeing their companion more as a close friend than a family member, usually even to the point of living separate in their respective homesteads.   Children are separated at birth and assigned to one parent to raise, only truly seeing eachother when the couple meets.   When of age, the young adults will be able to leave their home and visit the other parent indipendently.

Average Technological Level

Before being enslaved, the Haplàtkhaar attained a technological level similar to 1940s CE Earth, if not slightly more advanced.   Haplàtkhaar's pre-Reshtu society was living through a technological golden age, with widespread use of atomical power and the first colour broadcast devices entering the commercial landscape.   After being freed from the Reshtu, the species uniformized with the rest of humanity, attaining the current human technological level.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Given they're not able to speak human languages, the Haplàtkhaar often communicate with humans through the mean of the written word, having specialized pads custom built for the function on their person.   A Haplàtkhaar will be able to understand human language as is taught in schools.   Verbal communication between Haplàtkhaar is composed by a series of gurgling sounds and rattling of the mouthpieces, the tilting of the head and clapping of the pincers is also important in transmitting emotion and concepts.   Given their history with the Reshtu, differences in language groups were lost.   New dialects in their language, however, are beginning to surface as centuries pass and regional variants appear.

History

First enslaved by the Reshtu in what would've been approx. -600 OWE (around 1720 CE, old-world time standard), the species had its memory wiped and was harvested originally by the Reshtu's Radiant Fleet, eventually selling their licence to the Glimmering Fleet around the year -450 OWE.   The Haplàtkhaar, or Human 12, were eventually bred to serve as labour or as rare items for collectors, selectively breeding morphs to have desired colourations.   As low tier goods, Haplàtkhaar were usually abundant on the market and of low value, making them one of the biggest non-human minorities among the Union's species today.   By the 2360s, Human 12 found its identity again, thanks to the Deshivohai knowing their origin, their home planet out of reach and probably being a Cure wasteland.   All historical data for the species comes from the Deshivohai themselves which, in true Precursor fashion, barely disclose to humanity.
