Vampires
Basic Information
Anatomy
The vast majority appear as any normal human, only with a more sullen complexion and slightly more visible canine teeth. Other quirks might include a change of eye colour (most commonly yellow or red), pointed ears, sharper nails or teeth.
Older vampires (800+) often evolve into something a lot more monstrous looking, as their grip on humanity wanes away
Genetics and Reproduction
Whilst not completely out of the question, vampiric births are quite rare.
On the handful of occasions it has happened, if the child is of human-vampire heritage, they will grow normally until they are twenty-one, at which point the aging process either stops entirely or slows down.
Dietary Needs and Habits
As in all tales of old, vampires need blood to survive. Human blood is best for them, though they can make do with the bloods of certain animals. Fresh blood is best.
In general, mercilessly slaughtering several humans in one sitting is frowned upon by more modern vampiric minds, and it's preferred to have a more symbiotic relationship with a few close humans willing to donate.
Whilst consuming solid food does nothing but make them ill, consuming drinks or liquid food (such as soup) provides the usual enjoyment that would have in life. Some purists consider this a sin and abstain from doing so.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Proceedings are tended to by The Vampire Council, led by the supreme leader and the councillors. These are usually members of the ancient vampire clans dating back centuries, and as such they hold the most power amongst all vampires.
Facial characteristics
Whilst appearing mostly as a normal human, they do have more sullen features. Every vampire turned will have a scar along their throat and visibly sharper canines.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Worldwide - originated somewhere in eastern Europe, thought to be somewhere in the 1400s-1500s.
Often snuck onto boats that allowed their spread worldwide.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Heightened senses and agility are common place amongst all vampires, available to them from the moment they are turned, as well as a more advanced healing and basic hypnosis.
Other, more complex powers, tend to take a little more time and concentration, and there is no guarantee for a vampire to gain them. These powers include:
- Flight
- Appearing in a cloud of smoke
- Animal transformation (most commonly the form of a bat)
- Complete invulnerability to sunlight
Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms
In modern times, vampires try to have a symbiotic relationship with those they feed from.
