The Lost Islands
New Z'hrat's coastline is shadowed in both mists and myths, especially since the advent of the new high speed rail rendered ocean travel obsolete, and residual fears of sea creatures from the Serpentine War meant that even fewer sailors, passengers, and insurance companies were willing to risk the wrath of the sea.
Therefore, those islands that had once served as stops along trade routes had been leveled by the serpents and simply abandoned. What few survivors may have existed on the islands were cut off from mainland Z'hrat with little to no warning.
People speculate as to what happened to the islanders who got swallowed by the mist. The most likely answer, of course, is that they fled, or died off due to shortages of food, water, and medical care. But on cool, wet days when the dense fog rolls over the coastline and the roars of distant sea monsters loom large in the imaginations of many, it's not hard to think about what else may be out there. People? Ghosts? Or something else entirely, twisted and changed by wild magics beyond understanding.
